Evidently, my work place has signed up to raise money. Several departments have signed up to help. In the last two weeks, this is what's been sold:

Two Bake Sales
Hot Pretzels, with all sorts of cheese sauces
Ice Cream Sundaes with Sprinkles

Now, we just got an e-mail. For a certain donation, we get a coupon for 10% discount. Where? At Buffalo Chicken Wings.

We're raising money for?

The American Heart Association

Raw joy, that sounds about right. How it is. It is what it is.

Laugh, it's good for you.

I know I am.

Nothing is worse than my kid's afterschool care giving them potato chips for good behavior. So many kinds of wrong.

Laugh, scream, or ignore? I choose the latter. I've given up here at work. Too many folks. Too many addictions. I'm looking our for me. Don't mean to sound selfish, but I can't solve all THEIR problems...

I went to Chuck E. Cheese this weekend w/my dtr's family to celebrate my youngest grand-kiddo's 4th birthday. And let me tell you...I was flipping out watching the sickening, ooey, gooey pizzas, sodas and shit basically that was being consumed by these obese families! THEN the meltdowns the kids would have. It totally, totally flipped me out. Don't even get me started on the cotton candy (hello? can you spell spun SUGAR?) and the JUNK that was there! WOW!!!

I have tried many a time to open many a folks' eye. It's up to them.

I prefer to be a living testimony. If they see how healthy I am and ask what I'm doing, I'll tell them.

My preachin' days are over...

Me? I laughed. There's just a huge disconnect in our world and I still fight it even in my own self.

I work at a hospital in dietary and serve deep fried chicken appendages and culinary master pieces like frito pie. I understand the feeling.

Next time the school menus come out, I'll post some samples of the "nutritional" meal options available for the kids. :-( No wonder they are all such spazzes in the afternoon.

I think the irony is funny. Laugh. Laughter will do your body good and keep you emotionally balanced when tackling such ironies in life. Oh, the sweet irony of even that statement. :D

ha. frito pie.

when i was in the hospital, it was a challenge explaining what was nutritionally valuable to me as I healed and it did not include sugar, pastries, microwaved to death delicacies ....to the dietician no less!

laugh, laugh, laugh.

i would ignore, but i have to say i would strive to find some excuse to NOT participate in any way....or donate..or buy those icky foods. if you can, opt out. i think that kind of stuff is nothing but a trap, where you are forced to contribute in some way and maybe its not your cup of tea anyhow, raw or not, being forced to be charitable isnt really being charitable at all. if you have no choice.
i think ignore is the best choice. you can always claim you didnt get that memo (or email)...
haha.

That is such a contradiction, sadly though, it's not surprising. It's just so wrong in so many ways. *Sighs*.

I am just grateful that I am able to see that it is that way!

The local Relay for Life (also known as give lots of money to the cancer society) has a perennial "favorite" booth.
This booth is run by a group of doctors from the local area. Many of which are heart doctors, and a few are cancer doctors.
What do they sell?

Grilled processed meat. Mostly bratwurst. Yuck.

Actually, I do laugh. In fact, I crack up at my desk every time we get a new e-mail about this. I have made the remark to several people that if we didn't eat the cookies, cakes, pretzels, cheese, ice cream and chicken wings, we wouldn't need the Heart Association. Most people laugh and no one seems offended.

'm not pressured or anything like that to participate. We just get e-mail invites and reminders.

The really ironical part is I work for a major Health-Care Hospital System.

Ahhh. Life is bliss.
