Can eating more raw or all raw lower blood pressure? I had to go to an emergency clinic yesterday for a burn on my thigh (nasty burn, ouchie) and my BP is pretty high. There's heart disease in my family, plus I'm overweight on top of having a stressful visit from my mother, college committments AND 8 kids - so no wonder my BP is high, but I NEEEEED to get it down or the doctor said I will have to go on BP meds to lower it. Can anyone please share your experience with going all raw or partially raw, and how it affected your BP, and the rate that it did (like how quickly). Thanks!!!

Btw, I hope to make a bigger switch to raw after my mom leaves town. She's stuffing food at me left and right, I feel like I'm fending off the food dragon with my knife - no more cooked/fried/fatty food!!!

I won't ask you...if you are serious. First recieving a Burn and rushing to Emergency is enough by itself to raise your BP. Any Trauma can raise the BP.

Where did you get the idea that "Mothers are Stressful"? You have 8 Children, I know they are little Angels. And College is a Breeze. Yes that's enough to keep your BP elevated. I would invest in a home Upper Arm Cuff Monitor and keep an eye on it yourself.

Having a History of Heart Disease in your Family only means that No one Broke the Link. So it is up to you to do that for your Children and your Mother.

Mothers mean well when they prepare out favorite foods so the next time you visit her,,,,introduce her to RAW.

Even though you have 8 Children.....Take some time out for yourself. I know it might be hard to do but you need some "Me Time"

Yes RAW will take care of Elevated BP.

Yes absolutely dead serious - after re-reading it I guess it did look a bit like a joke. thanks for the replies. I guess I should have put in there that I had burnt myself earlier in the week, but my mom () insisted that I get it looked at. I wasn't overly worried, yes it looks nasty, but I had already gotten past the major pain part.

I love my mom but I'll be glad when she goes home. I feel obliged to eat her food and she is 100% dead set against "raw" even if it's just a portion. She claims her low carb is the only way - which she doesn't even eat low carb and looks like she's going to pop because of her weight and her face is always red (but she claims HER bp is low??). Anyway, thanks for the funny replies - reminds me that my situation is stressful naturally and takes some of the guilt off of my shoulders for my BP being high.

Hey fellow mom of many! It's not often I find moms with more kids :) (6 here)...

So, from personal experience of biting off more than I can chew...consider doing less. I had to restructure my life, I dropped out of full-time, bricks and mortar building schooling program that was leading to a stressful nursing career. Now I do all my schooling online, getting a BA...that'll buy me time till my youngest is in school full time. I do 60% of a course load.

Sometimes we get impatient and want it All done Now. I regularily have to talk myself down from wanting to take more courses or wanting my house renovated now, etc.

I am taking lessons from a friend I have who treats herself nice...goes to the Y and puts her kids in the babysitting room, or programs there and go does yoga and pilates and runs, etc.

I guess my point is...it's the rest of your life too, right? But you know that...

How old are your kids? What are you taking in school? How far till you're done? Just curious...

As for raw food and BP, you can BET on lowering your bp by doing any of losing weight, exercising, avoiding trans fats, avoiding animal foods, avoiding salt, and eating raw fruits and vegetables....they have lots of fibre and water which will help flush it out and carry it away.

This website and community is very supportive....just keep trying!

Love the name! it's my youngest nickname.

My kids are 18 months, 3, 5, 7, 12, 13, 15, and 16 - I'm going to school to get my ASN (R.N.) and I'm just at the prerequisite stage. 2 out of my 3 classes are already online, and I LOVE to go to class! It's like a breathe of fresh air for me. I'm in a situation where I really have no choice, I have to get my education finished now. My husband injured himself in August of last year, and is on unemployment while we wait for his workers comp to get figured out. He's going to school soon himself to retrain for a new field because he can't go back into his classification. Stress abounds, but I know it's for a purpose, yk?

btw most of my mom's family is from Ontario. My grandmother lives 45 minutes from N.F. - I miss "home"!

I'm not seeing where you direction question was answered... yes raw will affect your BP in a positive, downward way. It can happen in as little was 1 week. First, because you remove a high volume of processed grain from your diet. Wheat, in particular, is actually a huge contributor to high blood pressure. So part of the reason this will work for you is because of the things that you won't be eating.

Also, it is documented by physicians that work with heart patients (Ornish/Fuhrman) that what you eat can and will control high blood pressure and other areas of heart disease.

Weight is a large contributor to BP and you will loose weight. You will not be hungry. You will, however, still have MENTAL cravings. Be prepared.

Good luck... because with your high level of stress getting your health under control is of utmost urgency.

I am obese according to my bmi at 230 lbs. I am have been 80 % raw for 2 years now and my blood pressure is 130. The doctor looked at me weird knowing I am one big fatty with a very low and healthy blood pressure. I can only attribute it to being raw and eating lots of veggies and using olive oil like crazy.

Now my only goal is to lose this weight by becoming physically active. I am a couch potato. I have a gym membership and hardly go at all. I have 7 months left before my membership expires, so I hope to become extremely physically fit this Spring, Summer and Fall.

Then I will know for sure that my blood pressure is really good.

Could someone point me towards some more information about this? I'm very intrigued. My dad has high BP and I'd love to know more.
Thanks.

Heredity, activity level, weight, sex, anxiety level, diet and age.

Activity level being the most important, followed by diet (in my opinion)
Heredity does not play as large a factor as people like to try to make it.
