As a female, is there such thing as too much fruit at a meal? Like today I ate like 6 bananas, 2 mangoes and two nectarines and some blueberries. I'm just wondering what are the consequences and if there is a recommendation on fruit intake?

Thanks a million!
Peace!

Consequences? You will be very regular. :D As for too much, just listen to your body. If you don't want more fruit, don't eat it. But, if you do, then keep going.

as contessa20 said, listen to your body...she knows best! how did you feel after eating the fruit? if you felt good, then you know that it's not too much for you. lots of people have success on a high fruit diet. just keep listening to your body. fruit is good!

6 bananas huh? WoW! I would say try and diversify your fruits more... try and find one of every color fruit and eat those! Whenever i eat fruit i have found a small handful of raw nuts helps balance the meal

Most of what I eat is fruit. It is what I want to eat. As for the 6 bananas, I had about that many today as well.

Six bananas a day isn't that much. I ate 4 bananas today (2 in a GS) and I usually have more but they weren't too ripe at the market today.

As well as the bananas I had four apples, and some strawberries. I'd usually throw and orange or three into the mix but didn't today.

I believe if people are going to eat a high fruit diet then it is essential to make sure that greens are also a large part of the diet too (preferably in blended form).

I often have just fruit for breakfast and into late morning, and fairly large amounts of it. I never worry if I want lots of one kind of fruit, I just eat what I want. Go with what you want and feel is good for your body.

The words "too much" is the catalyst here. "Too much" in and of itself is the problem, not the fruit. How much is "too much" for anyone is the question. Eat what you want, when you want, as long as it's raw and eventually your body will come into balance about how much is "too much".

I like that....just eat what I want as long as its raw and my body will learn how much is too much...

Well, 6 Banana's would be alot for me but, not that way for everyone. I have a friend who eats alot of bananas but, ya gotta watch out. They can clog ya up or so I hear.

I think everyone has it right here with listening to our bodies. It's called "Intuitive Eating" HOwever, for some of us who have or are recovering from ED's that can be a little more challenging. But, when I am in sync with myself and body it works beautifully.

ENJOY! :D

PS: I eat alot more fruit now and it really satisiates me. (did I spell that right?)

Interesting I should find this post just after I made the big banana smoothie that I've been wanting for the past several days and made a last minute decision to add a handful of greens. That's because my diet has consisted primarily of fruit for the past 9-10 days, with a small salad every other day for lunch and I have wondered if it was too much fruit for my body and not enough vegetables. My concern is primarily due to a family history of diabetes.
As has been said, everybody is different, but I wonder how a family history or a previous diagnosis of diabetes affects what is too much?

10-12 bananas is a meal for me
4-6 apples is a meal for me

I eat a lot of fruit and the more fruit I eat (as long as I keep my overall diet low fat) the more energy I have. I am very physically active.

If you want fruit, eat up and no worries. :-)

make sure your bananas are well spotted--truly ripe. if not, then they may stop you up...but properly ripened bananas should cause no problem!

Don't have so many bananas. I had 4 bananas a day for a week and overdosed on potassium. The same happened when i did nothing but carrots all day every day for a week. You know you have problems when your heart rate can't go above 40 and you are working out.

You get really light headed and everything is funny, though.

If this happens, i recommend eating nothing but vegetables for 2 days, lots of water, and if possible getting some sea salt in you to try to get your membrane potential levels back to normal.

I will often eat 6 bananas, there a great source of calories if you are having trouble "upping" them, also they keep me full and satisfied. I also think that they are good for that "comfort" feeling that we look for in cooked food. But there actually rele good for us:):)!

I wouldn't worry about your intake of fruit so long as you are not eating past satisfaction. And certainly not past full. *Guilty* though, because I have problems with that myself sometimes, i just have to stop for a moment and reflect on my feelings, why am I doing this, what am I doing it for, what am I trying to avade etc. It's usually emotions I don't realize I need to deal with or try not to deal with, subconciously sometimes, and then I need to get to the bottom of what I am feeling. I am still working on it. And I am getting better at overcoming it.

Overall, I'd say have as much fruit as your body tells you that you need.

I think it's just about diversification AND moderation.

I think you need to balance your fruits and your veggies.

And while I consume more fruits than veggies - I always am taking a green supplement or a green smoothie to help the cause.

It's not so much having to do with gender. It has to do with your body chemistry - fat, water, muscle composition, organ health etc etc etc. And what you're healing within your cells and tissues as you become cleaner and more vibrant. You body is shouting for joy that you're eating fruits. If you can eat 6 bananas, eat them! And if you want more, eat them. Your body wants them and is utilizing them in some way, shape or form. Eat raw and you will eventually find balance. Release the diet thinking. Release the dainty lady eating thinking. Release other people's expectations!!! EAT! :D

ps. fruits are cleansing to the body, greens help the body rebuild. you're in cleansing mode - enjoy.

That many bananas a day every day is NOT SAFE OR HEALTHY. Potassium overdose = DEATH if not managed

I did at first, my stomach didn't like it for the first few weeks- but that was because of all of the fiber. I got use to it. I found fruit and carrots didn't go well.

but what if you exercise a lot?...bananas are a great potassium replenisher which exercising depletes. Sodium rich foods would balance out any extra potassium I'm guessing.

It's sodium vs potassium and
calcium vs magnesium if I remember right. (body electrolyte balances)

Yes, its sodium vs potassium. Potassium is fat soluble, so drinking water wont help. Exercising is the sure fire way, but it is not worth the hour of exercise to work off the potassium from 1 banana. Now, i AM talking under extreme circumstances. I was overdosing on potassium when i was eating 4-6 a day every day for a week.

Food Combining is always important so, that we don't ferment the food we in our digestion track.

I think more Fruit less Fat! :)

Guess that's why they are big on their tomatoes, celery, lettuce for the sodium. They are ALL about exercise over there too.

I can't find anything about maximum potassium levels. Anything on the RDA % is not really right anyways. A lady i know who has been vegan raw for 21 years told me a friend of hers went on a banana diet for 2 weeks to get rid of candida. She was reccommended by a natural hygienist because she worked 12-14 hour days and needed a fruit that was fast and higher in calories. She was fine. So I am not sure if eating only 4 bananas a day is dangerous. I have atleast that many sometimes 6.

When I first started out I ate a TON of fruit...it's what my body craved. Listen to your body it will tell you what it wants! I don't recommend over eating--listen to your body & it will tell you when to stop.

If fruit is yummy for you, eat until it isn't yummy anymore. Then stop. It's pretty simple. :D Everyone will need a different amount. Active folks will need more fuel. Bananas are pure, delicious creamy pockets of living food. Do not fear the banana. Eat to your hearts content if its what you want. It will help to power your lifestyle. I am healthier, happier and more physically active then I've ever been and I've occasionally eaten up to 30 bananas a day.

No worries! :)
