Just a heads up, I stumbled onto this today on the cable channel BBC America. .It's a reality show with the same format as Nanny 911. .An expert (in this case a nutritionist) goes into someones home and teaches the family (usually overweight from junk food) about nutrition.
Based on the two episodes I've watched so far, the nutritionist typically brings in what looks like about a 90% raw diet - and attempts to break the family's cycle of junk food.
This is the kind of TV we need.

Description of show from their website:
"Holistic nutritionist Gillian McKeith works with unhealthy eaters to break a lifetime of bad habits in just eight short weeks".

I've seen the show but don't believe totally what she says. For one thing she pushes a lot of soy. She also is generally regarded as a quack in Great Britain. And she herself is not healthy. She purports to have severe scoliosis that causes her great pain and breathing problems. She does not look at all healthy to me. Her face looks pinched. Complexion dull. Hair dull and lifeless.

While that is all true I do think that she has done more good than harm. I have even seen her on our most watched TV chat show telling people to raise their legs up on a stool while going to the toilet and that is not the sort of talk that the people are used to hearing on Friday night prime time and no harm to them.

We are not going to get such a program with David Wolfe or Victoria Boutenko any time soon.
It's a start in the right direction.

I agree with Steve- its a great start. When my family watches that show on Saturday mornings, they eat better all day. Soy is better than chips and burgers by a long shot!
There are alot of people pushing for things in the states viewed by quacks- hell lots of people thing David Wolfe is a quack. You have got to break it down to the basic message, which is eat more raw foods! She is personally one of my heroes- she is pushing raw foods and smoothies and juice and exercise, dispite being called names. Good for her!

Yeah I guess the media needs to start somewhere and can't be too extreme or no one is going to tune in. One step at a time.

Unfortunately, there are only a limited number of episodes that are continuously repeated. Also, it's definitely not all raw and also not vegetarian, since she uses a lot of fish. I do like the show in general, though, because it shows that with good nutrition and exercise, one can not only lose weight, but also regain health.

She is thought of as a quack because she was calling herself DR. Gillian McKeith and it was discovered that she is not a doctor. She's also had some bad shows that aren't as good as YAWYE.
I have seen all the episides too many times and they are great for opening someone's mind to not eating junk..for example--
--A huge raw dough ball the same weight as one dough eater's excess fat.
--a body bag filled with the amount of meat one man ate in one month
--a hot dog made with the parts of a pig that go into hot dogs (like whole snouts and ears on a bun)
--and many more
She does not espouse raw foods and recommends lean meat and fish as well as cooked grains, legumes and cooked vegetables. But a lot of her foods are raw..i.e. juices/smothies/ raw chocolate truffles etc
If you havent seen this show, it's worth a watch=)
btw youtubing you are what you eat" or gillian mckeith brings up some pretty silly spoofs of her show=)

Gillian McKeith does get alot of lambasting over here but when you talk to people they are often annoyed by the way she deals with the programs subjects and tend to ignore the positive changes they undergo. Ironically she used the title Dr based on a PhD she had obtained from a US based University that either isn't properly accredited or recognised in the UK I can't quite remember the details.
I quite like the programs myself but have seen them all a few times now.
She sells a range of 'living foods' products over here which are popular

It is really great to see people who advocate health and wellness BE THAT as well. I love having an health counselor or practioner looking wellness. That speaks well for their lifestyle and putting their money where their mouth is in a sense.
That is just what I enjoy. Helps me take their suggestions a whole lot easier too.
