I'm flying to Hawaii on Wednesday - Yay!!! It's a 5 or 6 hr flight, so I was trying to plan what food I want to take with me. Then I heard Matt Monarch say that he thinks it's best to fast on planes because it helps minimize jet lag somehow. Does anyone have any experience with this? Have you tried it and noticed a difference?

As an aside - I'm a little annoyed with Alaska Airlines. We're flying first class so they will give us breakfast. I tried calling them to request a vegan meal, and was told that they no longer make ANY meal accommodations. I think that is total crap!

Have a safe and fun trip. Sorry, to hear that about the airlines not accomodating meals. That can sometimes be a bummer. Just try and bring some food with you to eliminate any slip ups.

Yes, I've tried it and noticed a huge difference! I LOVE fasting on a plane. Just make sure you drink lots of water and

It sure solves a lot of problems about what you are going to eat and maybe you won't have to go to that little room that you can't turn around in, during the Flight. Fly, Fly, Fly to Hawaii......In Joy.

yes i fast when i go on a plane, and i don't even know what jetlag is. i've never had it.

HI....I would love it they did not offer me any of their sad stuffwhiches and packaged fluffnstuffages. haha

Anyway Gabriel Cousins book Rainbow Cuisine has a whole section on flying. It was really informative on how and why it upsets our systems. The vibration part fascinated me. It can be a real trauma to the body. A good read for you maybe?

I usually fast when I fly. It helps with jet lag and water retention and your overall mental/emotional disposition with being a social animal in the midst of airport chaos I believe. I generally juice like mad a week before I go anywhere - get super hydrated. Drink water when you're on the plane even if it means having to get up to pee a lot. The airline industry is in the midst of change - maybe we will soon see improvements in a year or two? I wish they would go ahead and create a super commercial submarine or speedboat type cruise ship already. Flying is becoming overrated. ;) You're going to Hawaii - dang - what's there to complain about?! You're blessed. :p Have FUN!

I read somewhere that you should fast for 16 hours prior to flying, and that this prevents jet lag because it resets your body's clock. Because you aren't eating it can't use meal times to judge what part of your day/night cycle it is.

i notice that i feel much better than usual when i eat less on a flight. i guess i'll try fasting when i fly home in May! thanks for the info.
