If you water fast will your liver heal itself at all? Is the only way to clean the liver to do the liver cleanse and get rid of gallstones? I am curious to those of you who have water fasted before. I ask because I am trying to clear my skin and help my liver as I don't think it's functioning properly if i keep getting acne.

i heard that if you are on a fast and you get acne then it is your body detoxing. isn't that good?

I don't know, but I am in the same boat as you....I didn't even think of it being the liver...but that is an interesting idea!
I know what non-raw things make my acne Worse, ie dairy. Also the spurts of high blood sugar I give myself do...which I think can be done on raw....perhaps that's part of it?
WIth fasting, it could be because of high toxin release? So still getting acne, but for different reasons the before.
I did get completely beautiful skin at one point...I fasted repeatedly over a few months, got pretty trim and ate loads of fruit in between and after fasting. I also exercised everyday. I don't know what of that worked, perhaps it was all of it combined.
Anyways, I hope you get some answers and success!

Me too. That is part of my motivation. I'm not hungry, but it is boring not snacking on fruit or having a new dinner to look forward to. But I will not live this way anymore, it's not fun hating your skin and feeling itchy. I am hoping that by next week it will be getting better.

Well hold strong on the fast because I had that same 'bored' thought, stick to it...i'm doing a fast starting tuesday, I will have only exams left to study for, so I won't have the pressure to perform, I have just at the moment.
I really believe in fasting, think it's a great tool, fast track to getting some healing done.
In a nutshell, I really, really support you in it...and just remember, it's not going to last forever, lol. Napping was always a nice addition to being bored I thought. I also drink fennel tea when I fast, it has a natural sweetness.

i only break out when i fast really.
when i'm not fasting, my skin is pretty reasonable. unless i over eat, and then i'll break out. like if i eat 20 bananas in one sitting for 5 days in a row, i'll usually break out. it's a different kind of break out though. i'll get like a big zit on my cheek. if i am fasting, i'll usually get the light spread out sprinkle acne on the forhead, chin, or around the nose area.

I think it depends very much on how long you fast and how heavy you are. A lot of toxins are stored in our fat cells and are released into the blood stream when we lose weight. Fasting dumps a lot of those toxins into the blood all at once. That's why we get headaches and break out etc. If you lose a lot of fat and stay on the fast for an extended period, I think it would be good to follow up with a liver cleanse, or at least take milk thistle to aid the liver. My liver enzymes are very high right now, and since I refuse to believe that it's cancer again, I can only assume that this is what happened to me and taking milk thistle will help (along with lots of carrot/apple juice, which is great for the liver).

Is it possible to pass stones on a water fast? I think I might be passing quite a few daily.

what is a "stone?"
i think when you are breaking out it is the liver cleaning itself out which usually happens during a fast or if you are just eating crappy. it's like a filter, and it filters all the crap out of your system, and the skin is an elimination organ.
how long have you been raw for?
simply eating raw food can have a "fasting" effect on a lot of people.
what the person said above about fat i agree with. when i am at a lower weight i have much better skin then when i am at a high weight. also, when i eat low fat, i have much much better skin.
if you would like your skin to clear up, i would suggest reading the 80/10/10 diet book by dr graham, and following his advice. low fat = beautiful skin.

I was talking about gallstones. I did a SWF during my second and third day of my 3 day water fast and I passed a lot of hard matter that ranged in size from pebbles to marbles. They were either green or black and they floated. These sounded similar to what would be passed on a liver cleanse.

it's a discussion forum. you can pretty much go into any thread and tell the people to do a google search. sometimes i would much rather discuss something with a person on the other end to keep connections. it also promotes the pool of information on the internet. i find your comment rude and unnecessary. are you trying to help or what is the point? better to not say anything at all. i don't understand how some people become so righteous. lol lame.

circle: gallstones are hardened bile that form in the gallbladder. They can be found in the liver as well. Having to many (or I believe any at all) slows down digestion. A diet high in fat (fried food, lard, ect.) causes this to happen. What I passed during my 3 day water fast looked suspiciously like gallstones based on the descriptions I have read. I just wasn't sure if you could only pass those if you did a liver cleanse with oil.

It felt great to get those out of there. I haven't had a gallbladder for six months so those things were hanging out in my body for quite some time.

If they become soft enough or small enough they pass right on out... that is how the body was designed to deal with them.. pass them on out. No pain no strain. it is only when they are bigger than the ducts can handle that they cause intense pain and huge problems. Apples and all of it's products and fasting (amongst other things) shrink stones pretty fast. I had my most effective liver flushes after I had done several weeks of cleansing.
i had acne before i went raw... going raw - which healed my liver - got rid of my acne.
hope that assists?
Aleesha, did you actually do that liver cleanse?
When I was a small kid, I broke out in acne like bumps when I ate too much citrus, so did my sister. My MD told my mom that was a sign the body had too much 'c'.
Interesting some of you only get the acne when you fast.
