View Full Version : I am baaack toooo!
Well sort of
I was 100% raw for about 7 months back in 2006, and then went to Hawaii on vacation and hit a firm WALL. splat
All it took for me was caving to a few gourmet dinners in Hawaii and then addiction set in and I went on a cooked binge and never found myself able to get back to raw. I kept my smoothies going for a long time after that, for breakfast and lunch during the week, but resorted to having dinnertime and weekend cooked binges, and thusly gained all my weight back as quickly as it had shed off (about 30 or 40 pounds)...
We moved in 2008 and of all things to lose in the move, I lost my vitamix blender container! :( I am still looking for a replacement container that is affordable (just can't get myself to shed $130 for one) so I can start my way back to raw with my smoothies...
Anyhow, I turned 38 in January and I feel like total crap and have been for at least the last 6 months. I don't want to go to the doc, but I am betting that I am dealing with the onset of high bp and cholesterol as it runs in both sides of my family. I've lost all energy and desire to exercise and eat right, but at least am starting to feel desperate enough to make some changes. I especially hope that I can get some real motivation to start eating right! I loved this forum most of any raw resources I had when I was raw and am hoping that some visits and poking around will stir me up!

Welcome back! You'll get back into "it" again. You KNOW how well you feel. You KNOW it works. Just do it!!!
shoot. That's the insanity of it all. I'd never felt better and then I just bailed. I just found this pic (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1393&d=1154710362) from when I'd been raw for about 6 months... (I am back to about 215lbs now) I want it back!!! It's so frustrating to me how hard it is now to just take the steps when I know how good I'd feel.

Drop the frustration. Be thankful you are here, in the now, realizing THIS is the healing journey for you.
Drop the 'tude dude!!! :D
You are one handsome guy!!!!
You'll do fine. Men eliminate weight waaay quicker than woman. Also because something "runs" in your family? Doesn't mean you automatically "get" that. You're creating that by NOT taking care of yourself, right?
Maybe I was :) But just a tired old fat ass now :) j/k
You are So right (of course). I know the problem is WAS in between my ears. Thankfulness. Yes. I just passed up an egg burrito. Yes. Thankful. :)
And you're totally right about the cholesterol BS I feed myself. My wife keeps telling me to get checked and I keep saying.. Wait! I need to get raw again first! :D

Um, puleeze don't post THAT picture - the tired fat ass! LOL!!!!
Egg what? Egg barf-oh-toh???? YUCK!!!!
way to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes a barfarito. You're cracking me up. But actually, (confessional time) I've just revealed one of my biggest challenges to you. That egg barfarito is something the wife left in the pan for me this morning. I am (WAS) not just an tired old fat ass... I am (WAS) a LAZY tired old fat ass that LOVES to have meals made for me and doesn't (DIDN'T) like to spend time in the kitchen... I have to get out of this passive 'feed me' mode if I am going to make lasting change. If only I could convince the wife to make changes too. I mean I probably can because she needs it too and knows it, but the last time around I think that was the hardest part of staying raw for me, that she wasn't on board with me...

Welcome :) On the contrary, you can enjoy your laziness full power: raw doesn't need a kitchen, neither does it NEED any blenders and suchlike. That's one of the reasons why I love raw so much. The food is always there, ready for us to bite into it,-it's pure luxury. YAY!

Okay. Do a 30-day challenge - the two of you together - 100% Raw. Certainly she'll opt for that? And once at the end of that time period? I'd bet a body part she'll want to continue. Swim suit season is right around the corner and wouldn't she want to "buff" up for that?
That's a thought...
and YES what freshlight says. Raw does not need anything special. BUT having said that, that is hard to jump from Barf-yuck-ohs to REAL food...so back to the challenge...
...maybe set a goal too. Like whoever drops the most weight, gets to spend $50 bucks frivolously (sp?) on something...have fun with it...
dang you guys are nailing me on all my excuses! Thank you! :D
I just blended a tasty red delicious apple in my mouth! Could this be a rawvolution?!
A partnered challenge.. That is an excellent idea but I don't know if she'll commit to 100%. She is a busy busy mom of four (yes 4) kids (oldest is almost 12)... I could see her going pretty high raw though, if we plan it right.. I'll let you know what she says... ;-)

Welcome back, TP. Maybe you can post that pic in various places as inspiration.
Would be great if you can go raw with your wife. If she won't go raw or completely, at least see if she's willing to make a lot of healthy changes with foods. Not having temptations around will help. Also good to teach the kids to eat healthy as early as possible.
You may find a good deal on a Vitamix container on the internet.

Hey I've been there too. I lost fifty pounds on raw, went though some hard times and jump right back into junk food vegan. It took me a while to jump back on, but after gaining 15 pounds and feeling sick all the time I realized what I needed to do. You can do this too. It just take a couple of days of feeling the effects of raw and you will be back on track.

hey! Congrats on your past success--look at that, it means you know you can do it! And great "after" pic, you look wonderful.
VeganForLife that's a great idea of making a bet. I may do that with Y... both of us are mad competitive.
ok just an update here to say "i am still trying!".. Got my (freaking expensive) replacement vitamix container and had to postpone my efforts because we hosted friends for a week... BUT i've been 100% raw for 4.5 days now (except for morning black coffee that I ain't ready to withdraw from).. I'm doing mostly green smoothies because I am all about convenience... Don't know if I'll be able to keep up 100% for too long, again (mostly) because I can't get my wife (and family) on board with 100%, but I'm just taking it one choice at a time right now and going to do my best..
Dudes I feel sooo much better in just 5 days!! I forgot how gooood it feels! The energy boost also has helped me to get out and get more active which is very exciting coming from a relatively sedentary year..
Ok another something I really want to know is why my nose is so dang alert all of the sudden. By day number two (Tuesday) I was smelling everything.. Normally I don't smell hardly anything and now it's Mr Keen nose over here.. I keep smelling peoples sour bad breath and wishing I could turn my nose off.. Any of you knowledgeable folks know why this happened? I keep wondering if it is because of my PH level, since it has probably dropped dramatically... Just a wild guess on my part... :)
