I bought Braggs amino acids.....how much are you supposed to use & what do you use it in? Is there only one kind?

It's your call how much to use. Alissa's book has a slew of recipes that calls for it.

Um, why did you buy it if you didn't know how to use it? Just curious...

I don't know if there are any other kinds or not...

Yes, there's only one Bragg's Liquid Aminos and use it to taste as you would any other salty flavoring. You use it in anything you want to add salty flavor to.

Nobody really knows what it is which is why most of us are using Nama Shoyu now.

Personally my favorite soy sauce is unpasteurized tamari. Nama shoyu has wheat in it, and some of my friends that I make food for are gluten sensitive so they can't eat wheat. I agree with Revvell that Bragg's amino acids is a little sketchy . . . no one knows what's in it, it is rumoured to contain MSG, and it makes me feel icky after I eat it.

For the "horrors" on Bragg's liquid aminos, read it up:

I stopped using it when I found out it wasn't "raw". Seemingly - it's just another not healthy soy sauce.

I bought it because i couldn't find nama shoyu. I can't stand the taste and won't be using it again. I used tamari for anything i have too. I prefer not to eat wheat as my sister's are allergic and i don't know how sensitive i am too it while being raw.

I am grateful that i read that link. Thank you. I used it once to marinate mushrooms and was so disgusted with it i could not eat it or look at it as food. I knew there was something horribly wrong with the taste.

It definitely isn't raw or natural- but don't listen to the "OH MAH GOD ITS MADE WITH HYDROCHLORIC ACID" bit. The HCL is not a part of the final product, or is broken down and rebonds with other particles so it isn't acid any more.

yeah hydrochloric acid breaks down everything in our stomach so that's not really the issue
the msg is the main problem
but this is why i've come to distrust processed foods

Hi RawStrength -

which brand(s) of tamari are unpasteurized? I just called San-J and theirs is pasteurized.

Read this on braggs aminos http://www.welikeitraw.com/rawfood/2005/06/bragg_liquid_am.html

And all tamari IS pasteurized, anything u can find at a normal grocery store is pasteurized.

Nama shoyu is raw and available at some health stores or online.

Really it's up to you what you'd prefer to use as a little bit of either probably won't make much of a difference.
