Tried Ani's lucuma icecream - my blender being a bog standard one didn't do a good job, so it didn't hit the spot . I've been reading about banana icecream. I don't have Alissa's book yet (on my wishlist)..... could someone please post a recipe? I just hope and pray my blender can handle a banana better than it did the nuts and lucuma... Please help - I really need icecream and dairy is not an option! :D

I like to blend almond milk and dates, then add frozen fruit until the blender protests. Strawberries or blueberries are my favorite.

do you have a food processor?
In a food processor - I turn it on, drop a handful or two of almonds in, let them wurrr for 30 seconds or so, then drop some frozen banana in - about 2 bananas, maybe a little less.
When the machine can't process - I drizzle a little bit of water in, just so it can process.
It's a "crunch" type ice cream.

Thanks for the fast responses. So, I need to freeze the fruit first, right? And once it's made, do you re-freeze or eat immediately?

Yes, freeze the fruit (already peeled and cut into chunks ready to blend) or buy it already frozen. I eat it immediately. If I make too much I will freeze it, but that doesn't happen often ;). If you need to freeze it to thicken it up, stir it every 10-15 minutes to break up the ice crystals and keep it creamy. If it freezes solid you can thaw it slightly before eating or break it into chunks and put it back in the blender with more sweetened almond milk and call it a milkshake.
Do you make your own almond milk? It's one of my favorite raw foods. I almost always keep some in the fridge or have almonds soaking. In a pinch you could try making it with cashew or walnut milk, less soaking time and no straining. Or try it with coconut water. All good, but the almond milk is definitely the ice creamiest.

This week I had cherry ice cream and it was so good that everyone should try it.
I had some cherries that I had put in the freezer when I was leaving the house for a few weeks.
I put the cherries and four frozen bananas in to the food processor and it was fantastic.
I normally make mine with bananas and berries. I sometimes add either coconut oil, sunflower seeds or walnuts.

I had fresh cherries but I had frozen them myself because I knew that I was not going to get around to eating them. Now I am annoyed because I have not been abel to get more cherries.
I guess that they are not in season anywhere.

freeze bananas, then peel them, then mash them with a spoon and enjoy.
or, freeze bananas and peaches, put in the blender with a drop of oj, and maybe a date, and blend.
