I am eating high raw atm, and hope to be still mostly raw come summer time. I have just had confirmed that I will be going away to gran canaria for two weeks in july.

The thing is, I'm worried I will "fall off the wagon", so to speak, and eat lots of pasta/cooked foods because I simply can't be bothered to eat before we eat out. I have planned on buying, in bulk, before hand, larabars and other raw bars and some dried fruit. I hope that they have a good choice of fruit there!!

Last year when I went away to greece, I wasn't raw, but I was healthy vegan and I didn't generally eat pasta or anything like that, but when I got there all I was eating was wedges and rice (white, not to mention!) and pasta and breads, the salads were awful! and sometimes beans. They had a really poor selection of fresh fruit, the only thing I really had was a couple of nectarines and some oranges. I am really hoping the canaries will have a better selection, I use to go when I was a kid, but I can't remember for my life if there was fresh fruit, I was big into fish back then!

Any ideas? Do you think it would be too risky bringing a vitamix blender with me? In case it got stolen? I hope to have one by then.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I wouldn't take my vitamix because it is big and heavy, it takes up a lot of room really. You have to set yourself up for success though too. When you say you hope something doesn't happen, that you have control of, does that make sense? You can say you do your best but you can choose what you eat every time.

It's great to plan ahead and bring things like nuts and larabars etc. Maybe call a travel agent and see if they can tell you anything about local food or produce. Look on the internet. Maybe you could bring a small hand food processor and make dips and guacamole for veggies or chunky dressings.

Veronica, you're right - It is in my powers if something can go right or wrong with my diet - what I should have said is, I hope I can control myself:rolleyes::o.

Yeah, vita mix would probably be bulky - mm, yeah I have a mini food processor handy, so I can probably take that. I have been looking on the internet, not much information except "bad place to go for vegetarians" reportedly.

Thanks for ur help.:).

Aww i empathize with you about trying to find local food. I would love to travel in europe but now that i am raw i am thinking ooh if i could who would i go with? You can't be with people that want to eat out every meal and never make food at "home". I hope in the future there are raw vacations or cruises that have raw selections! That would be great!

I was just thinking when i go down to texas how can i make great food for my skeptical mom to try and the vitamix is just too big, i'd have no room for shoes and have to pay for extra luggage!

Don't bring any gadgets or food with you. That would be like carrying coals to Newcastle! There is plenty of delicious raw food in the Canaries, including avocadoes as big as canteloupes! Bananas are produced locally and taste good. Oranges are plentiful. Salad ingredients are grown on Lanzarote, so they are fresh. Grapes will be in season. Buy food from local mercados and eat on the beaches, not in restaurants. I spent two winters in the Canaries on mostly raw food. Had no digestive problems—oranges, peanuts, and bananas have sanitary covers. Don't know what the water situation is now, but you can buy agua distillado from farmacias. The gofio is not raw.

Really, that's great to hear! Although I'll be going with at least 3 other people, who eat a cooked omnivore diet, not only that, but a very unhealthy one too. So, as I found out last year, it was very hard even though i was cooked vegan. This year I have high hopes as you have mentioned all that nice fruit yumm-y, guess I will have to eat before we go out! That would be nice also to eat on the beaches!! - lovely suggestion!

Yeah the eating out thing is annoying, guess I can play with my cutlery... :) ha.

Yeah cruises aren't too bad for fruit actually, but great thinking.
