I wanted to share some photos of my dog and two cats who are on raw prey-model. We didn't think it was possible but the black cat Bear got shinier, and now we can't even smell the litter box in the same room. I gave the cats some dry kibble a few days because I got free samples of some high quality brands, and immediately we were shocked with the smell coming from the box! You could smell it throughout the house!

Sadie, my American Eskimo Dog, constantly gets compliments on how white and pretty her teeth are, and how happy and vibrant she is.

We get a lot of our food from prey4pets.com and from the local ethnic markets. It's pretty inexpensive but I also like to spoil them with rare stuff as treats. Felix has been more reluctant but he was the oldest when we switched, he was 4 years old and Bear was 2. Sadie was a few months old.
Sadie's favorites are rabbit and chicks. I take lots of photos of them because it's so interesting to me to see them enjoying food that seems so gross to most people but they love it. If you guys want to see them go here - just keep in mind they are pretty gross haha

They are SO beautiful and look so content!
We are currently transitioning our kitties from a ground, frozen raw meat diet to a raw prey diet - your photos are inspiring. Thanks for posting. :)

I really would like to have a dog, but when I do finally adopt one I want to be able to feed it RAW like me. Just thinking about whats in animal food gives me the hibbie jibbies. Could you right about your dogs diet so I know what to get and about how much it cost you?
thanks

I pretty much give Sadie anything she will eat, but you can do just grocery store meat. I do think Rabbit is a huge benefit if you can pay for the shipping. Sadie gets chicken (neck, back, drumsticks, wings) and feeder chicks, beef (ground beef, "sale" steaks), pork, I've found good deals on things like duck and turkey in ethnic markets. She loves whole rabbits. You want to feed 80% meat, 80% bone, 10% organ (half of your organ is liver, other half is misc). Tongue and heart count as meat. Organs are liver, kidneys, lungs. You can find chicken liver in the grocery very easily. Chicken feet are great source of glucosamine.
Go to yahoo and join the rawfeeding group, it's a big help. I order all the time from http://www.prey4pets.com/servlet/StoreFront

Thank you!
And yes, Bear IS THAT shiny. It's even more so in person. He's like, a mirror.

my cat is on an organic kibble diet right now. Although he has lost weight and improved since being on crappy costco brand. I cringe at the thought of him eating corn and wheat and cooked food in it. Since going raw i still have a freezer full of game meat my grandpa hunted. Could he eat that? Does it have to be ground up?

yes he cna eat that! see, now you dont have to give it away! i partially thaw mine, my GSD eats a lot of elk b/c a local butcher gives away the scrap meat and bones. at 1st mine would not eat the elk, even tho he was accustomed to raw. but then finally he did. i started out a little at at ime b/c i think its way diff than store bought chiken or beef.
YAY!!

Yes, but cats are usually much harder to switch than dogs. Dogs will eat anything. Cats are genetically programmed to be picky.
Read this: http://www.rawfedcats.org/practicalguide.htm
Unlike dogs, cats CANNOT go for more than 24 hours without food, it is too dangerous that they will develop a liver disorder.
First we had canned food mixed with raw premade, than raw premade mixed with canned tuna, then raw premade topped with tuna juice. Next very small chunks of chicken with canned food and tuna juice. Then larger chunks. Then chicken plain. Finally, chicken on the bone. Took a long time to get there.

Hi, may I jump in?
I'm still transitioning my kitties to raw. I went to the Prey 4 Pets site and I don't think my kitties are ready for whole prey yet (I'm not anyway!). They are slowly coming around. My oldest is 16-1/2 and has always preferred dry food. My other is 4. I first had to get them used to canned food. They will eat Fancy Feast and I mix the raw food in it. By next week, they may not need the cat food mixed, they seem to be eating the raw meat quite well. My cats don't like cold food so I will heat the meat just a little in the microwave for 7-8 seconds.
I order my food from Hare Today. They have a HUGE variety. I'm finding out what my cats like and don't like. For some reason, they will not eat the mouse so I give that to the ferals that I feed. They seem to like duck, chicken and pheasant so far. I think my cats are the pickiest eaters in the world! Then eventually, I'll try some raw prey....baby steps.
