I use a natural toothpaste with teatree oil and baking soda, but im having a problem with one of my gums being really low on the toothline, it's a crown so it was irritated 2 years ago. I keep getting an infection building up inbetween the tooth and the gum that expands and pops every week. It doesn't hurt or anything or get worse it just keeps coming back and if i go to the dentist they are going to charge me $250 just to clean it out. And i had it done in october and maybe little bits of fruit or veggies is getting underneath it and im not sure what i should do. I do oil pulling but it keeps coming back too.

the herb golden seal root has a big reputation for gum / mouth infections .

can be bought at www.mountainroseherbs.com , an powdered ounce for about $8 . i keep an ounce on hand for infections which i just gave to my neighboor so re-ordered a four ounce packet for $28 yesterday .
if get you'd just let a mouthful mixed in water sit a few minutes then swallow it

i also say that salt is bad for gums , kind of makes the tooth less tight to the gum - makes teeth looser

and i know ive read before of a natural / plant thing that makes gums tighter to teeth , i'll think on it

yeah im not eating any added salt at all either. It's not even loose around the tooth, its like something is in there and stuck that i cant feel or maybe a little bit gets down in there. I can't feel anything, just the outside of the gum is puffy and round like there's an infection underneath it. It's weird. The dentist said once he scraped it out it'd be fine and just use baking soda, im just wondering what the heck is going on.

lol wish i had gone raw 2 years ago before i had every one of my teeth crowned. I was getting severe acid wear from fruit and had painfully sensitive teeth i couldn't have anything hot cold or acidic or it would be excrutiating... i'm a lot poorer for it now!

Really? Bar soap??? :S

I've been brushing with Dr Bronner's soap for the past week.
Then, this morning, I thought, "Wait... baking soda!"
People used to brush with baking soda all the time. It alkalizes!!
So, now I'm trying baking soda on my brush (moisened with soap).

What works for me is a shot of wheat grass juice. But not taken as a shot. More of an "oil pulling" methodology. Swish swish swish swish for 5 minutes or longer. I take my shot to the most secluded corner of the juice bar when I do this like a sick cat, but I'm sure everyone sees and couldn't care less.

I thought salt water was supposed to help heal the gums and remineralize teeth. ???

that may be . i really shouldnt have made the salt statement because it was soley based on my personal experience of when i used to eat alot of salted sunflower seeds in the shell , i work outside and would eat them all day so it was heavy salt amounts . and it seemed like when ide quit them my teeth felt tighter to gums , then ide go back on and theyd feel looser . it was like all the salt was making my gums raw :o

Baking soda,I learned was too abrasive to use every brushing. It will take off what you are building up in enamel. The tooth soap brushings and then once a week with an abrasive like baking soda to keep them white. Not every day though.

I'm not worried about anything being to abrasive to my teeth lol as i've had every one of them root canaled and crowned. I had ridiculously sensitive teeth, it was painful to eat fruit or drink water and I wasn't living with that anymore.

Check out a book called "Understanding Gum Disease" by Jerome Hill. It is based on the discoveries of Dr. Paul H. Keyes and advocates a salt water rinse to inactivate bad bacteria in the mouth.

Veronica, that was exactly my challenge, sensitive teeth. The abrasives seem to take off what I was trying to build up....The reenamelization of my teeth. This makes them less sensitive. If abrasives are used, the protection is gone and the teeth are more sensitive. When I found this out I was amazed and happy to find relief.

Plus when the soap cleaned them well, the gums came back to where they needed to be. That also helped with the sensitive nature of the teeth.
Best to you in that sweet.

Hi Colorawdo Girl,

What kind of soap did you use?

After fasting it has not come back yet, so I am quite pleased. I'm going to continue eating mostly fruit and low fat and think that will help. it does suck however that even though my teeth are crowned you can still get that fuzzy teeth feeling from eating fruit so i still brush my teeth with organic toothpaste. I am almost out so i will look at the store for tooth soap next time. :)
