The last time I ordered Kelp Noodles they didn't have a smell to them. I just got my second box and opened one and it had a smell to it. I can't explain the smell but I don't remember it from before. Almost like it's gone bad, but they haven't expired yet. I opened two bags and they were both the same. Blah. What to do.. what to do...

I've heard that kelp noodles often have a funky smell when you open the package but that it goes away after you rinse and soak them. They're probably fine.
I ate my first pack last week though and they had a lightly rubbery smell but nothing unbearable.

The first time I tried kelp noodles, I wasn't crazy about the sort of squeaky crunch texture but then I heard a tip to soak them in a bit of lemon juice first to soften them -- voila! Love 'em now! Had them with a pad thai sauce and greens (recipe from YouTube, Ani Phyo -- can I say that here?) and it was totally yummy.
Question: anyone know how long they stay good after the pack has been opened? I had some in the fridge that I forgot about and eventually tossed but I hate to waste them, would like to know for next time if possible.
