I have been reading through a lot of the information on this site and have yet to find anything that particularly addresses my main questions. I am sure I just haven't dug around enough but I gotta run so I am writing this quick post. I am on day three of attempting to fast. I am not sure if what I am doing is fasting or not...I'm just doing what seems to work for my body. I started my fast Sunday night. Monday I did green juice, grapefruit juice and "tomato soup" juice and herbal teas (fasting teas and detox teas). I felt great! Not to hungry or anything. Tuesday I didn't do any tea, I drank a little green juice and grapefruit juice but nothing was doing it for me. When I got home around 4 I was FAMISHED! I made a blended salad with the remainder of the juice that I hadn't drank from my quart of green juice. It was divine but I was still really empty and uncomfortable so I had another bowl of blended soup. I put a 1/4 avo in the first soup and some pumpkin seeds in the second one. I generally LOVE avo and healthy fats so I have been missing those! I don't miss chewing that much. Today I have only had water and tea all day. I am a little tired but feeling great. Did I break my fast with the smoothie concoction? I am thinking about having coconut water for dinner. Maybe mixing in some Blue Mana. I am not very hungry at all today. I am also thinking about going to a yoga class? It's beautiful out so I may just work in the garden. I have had one detox tea, lemon water, regular water...msm water! I have noticed that I don't really enjoy it unless it's warm though. Cold water makes me very uncomfortable and hot water does the same. So I make my tea with warm water and drink warm water...I am also consuming chlorella and spirulina.

I would love thoughts. I am feeling better today that I did the past 2 days but I'm not sure if it's because I broke my fast and am starting over or if it's because I am making progress?

Have a wonderful evening everyone and I appreciate the time you took to read/respond to this!

Wysteria, you kinda sound like how I started this fast. I am doing what feels right and is working for me and I'm on day, um 45 I think it is. I do green smoothies. I do fresh juiced juices - either/or fruits, veggies and a combo of both, teas, fasting and herbal, water, coconut water and the like.

It's what I want for me. It's what is working for me. Don't know if there is any hard and fast rule, at least not for me there isn't...

Good luck! It's amazing. Read my blog! VERY spiritual...

Wysteria, I think whatever is working for you is great. It sounds like you're simply listening to your body.

To briefly answer your questions:

I think you're juice feasting rather than fasting. With fasting, you want to avoid fats (including avocados). Fasting tends to lead to mild to intense detoxification symptoms. If you were famished on Day 2 sometimes that could be considered detox. But in your case, I'm intuiting your body was simply wanting some more feasting goodies. :)

Helpful thread that speaks to the difference between feasting and fasting: http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?p=503007

If you're sincerely interesting in learning more about fasting, please read the work of Dr. Herbert Shelton. http://www.soilandhealth.org/02/0201hyglibcat/020127shelton.III/020127.toc.htm

More helpful info, this has more to do with water fasting, but I think the same information applies to juice fasting

A good book is The Fasting Handbook: Dining from an Empty Bowl by Jeremy Safron (raw foodist in Hawaii)

To end your feast, I would think a green smoothie would be just fine.

With fasting, you want to be more careful of your choice to break your fast. Generally it's fruit juice, orange juice or green juice...gradually making your way to eating fermented raw foods, sprouts, juices, smoothies, gourmet raw etc.

Best wishes.
