Hi everyone....I have a question and maybe some one out there is or was a nurse or someone that has even gealt with this issue that can help me cause I am truly getting confused.

I am on a blood thinner due to having a blood clot two years back and they wont take me off of it until I lose some weight due to not knowing what caused the clot....I was told by doctor thta greens and vitamin K thicken the blood and then was told by someone that it thins...today the nurse who tok my readings due to fluctuating so much due to eating good then eating ba detc etc states it thickens your blood..meanig all the greens I have been adding into my plan have been doing more bad for me...just not sure what direction to go...confused

Has anyone been on a blood thinner or known someone to that has gotten off of it from doing this way of eating? I need to get off this crap (sorry) once and for all.

Thanks everyone for your help

Sandy

Lemon is a good blood-thinner according to Walker's books. Get well soon!

i know that vitamin k (in its synthetic form (i.e pill)) thickens the blood. i was given vit k pre-surgery once to minimize bleeding. i think it was a crazy, high dose of vitamin k and again it was a man-made pill, not via food.

i am not a doctor, but i would be surprised (even shocked) if greens (from nature) have a blood thickening effect.

would love to know the answer.

Freshlight: Thank you I will try that. When I went 85% raw - reachig for 100% raw - I ate greens alot of recipes with lemon etc and my blood thinner meds went down due to this way of eating...ate less greens then I am now cause I increased due to being told by someone it thins...just confused :)

Kiropa: I agree...how can healthy veggies - even if green thicken your blood- I find that hard to believe - but I don't know.

I just need some osrt of direction on whether to wtch the greens for now until I drop some weight and get off meds in which I can increase them or increase them because in natural form they do thin blood and doctors were incorrect..

Thanks :)

funny how anything healthy you could be eating you are told to stop eating because it messes with your meds... what about the meds! They are messing with you worse, right?

When my Mom was struggling with cancer she took a blood thinner. Her doctor would NOT let her eat more than a cup of lettuce a few times a week. He told her the medication was to thin her blood and adding greens to her diet might make her blood too thin. She used to get blood tested every week and have the thinning medication adjusted accordingly.

Wouldn't the greens and high water content in a raw diet thin the blood? It has certainly lowered my blood pressure and pulse, which I thought was from the blood not being thickened by cooked fats and cholesterol.

Could be that the cleansing process that takes place on a raw diet would draw toxins into the bloodstream from the lymph fluids which would temporarily thicken the blood. But somehow I doubt that healthcare professionals would be talking like that.

As long as you continue to get your blood tested regularly why not stick with raw and see if you can get the medication lowered a little at a time. Someday you may amaze your Doctor. :D

Best wishes to you.

I've heard Dr. Richard Becker, an (Osteopath who advocates a 'plant based diet') talk about this on his TV show.
Also, I have read that if you're on blood thinners, you can eat greens, but should be precisely consistent with amount you consume each day, while your doctor adjusts your medication accordingly.

TOTALLY agree with this statement.

How about going on a 30-day challenge - 100% RAW - ONE HUNDRED PERCENT Raw and see what happens.

My thyroid healed by going 100% Raw.
