I've read a few posts around here about people saying they can't handle raw garlic or it makes their skin itch or even they don't like it. I always hated roasted garlic, but raw garlic? I add it to every dressing and sauce and although it's hard to get the smell out of your mouth, I can't say I've ever had too much garlic or don't like it. I like my raw caesar dressing, pesto, marinara all with lots of garlic. Am i going to stop liking it after being raw for a long time?

Garlic has a lot of health benefits . . . but it can have an antibiotic effect. Listen to your body, it sounds like garlic works for you right now. That may change.

I eat onion grass that grows at my school ( I run up and pick it between classes). I like the taste.. will probably be the same for you if you like garlic already. Raw garlic has a bitterness to it that makes it seem very ... "spicy" (?)

Now that I think about it, onion grass serves as a perfect substitute.

Lots of SAD eaters do not care for garlicky food...those of us raised Italian or Greek - well, garlic is just its own food group! Mmmm!

I wouldn't stress about it. You like it now? Enjoy it. If the time comes that you don't like it, you'll have found something else that makes you purr.

I love garlic, but it makes me feel dizzy after consuming it, unless it is in very small quantities. I used to be able to eat whole cloves without any issues. I am thinking (and hoping) this is detox and my body will get over it soon.

I'm neither Italian or Greek, but in our house, garlic is its own food group, AND it is an aphrodisiac! :p

I made an AMAZING sauce last night for over zucchini 'pasta' that was about 6 cloves of garlic, some sun-dried tomatoes, some olive oil, fresh basil, a few little red peppers, a bit of salt, and enough Rejuvelac to make it blend. Tonight, we had more of that sauce over fresh garden salads! YUMMY!

In our house we don't use any garlic. Only special occasions will we have garlic when there's some in a gourmet raw dish, unless I make it myself then I would not put garlic in the dish at all.

Garlic is very stimulating and powerful. Garlic juice can be used as an antibiotic to kill a culture of bacteria in just minutes. That means even the good bacteria. For those of you with low B12 I would recommend not ingesting this toxic condiment.
Garlic juice can be used for killing mosquito larvae, aphids, houseflies, caterpillars, etc. Great for gardeners!

The mustard oil of garlic is the sole ingredient for which it is recommended. And just as surely, it is a poisonous indigestible oil that plays havoc with the human constitution just as does the capsicum of hot peppers, the nicotine of tobacco, the solanine of the nightshade family or any of the myriad of other poisons of popularity referred to as herbs.

Even though garlic or onions are not processed or altered, they are regarded as junk foods because they do not contribute to the welfare of the body when ingested. On the contrary, they contribute to disease by adding toxins to the body. There are no health benefits to reap from ingesting either of these foods. They both contain toxic irritants which result in much harm when included in the diet.

I use to love garlic and onions and eat them all the time until I found out that I was deficient in B12 and did my research. I no longer take B12 shots or pills (my doctor told me I would have to for the rest of my life) my levels are caught up and good ever since I stopped eating garlic and onions.

But I love garlic.... it makes my marinara sauces so yummy and how can you make caesar dressing without it? It's not like im eating it by itself, and it's only a clove or two in a whole recipe that's divided for the week or a few days. It can't be that much

Veronica, don't worry!

Many of us eat lots of garlic, and have no B12 problems. Some people make it out to be the food from hell, but others make out bananas, dates and even tomatoes to be foods created by the devil himself. lol.

Just go with what you feel is good for you. For me it is indulging in what I believe is a very healthy food for spicing up dishes.

Some religions shy away from food from the onion/garlic family because it's very stimulating. That's one of the reasons why I love it so much!

I love onion, I love garlic and have never suffered from ill effects, either with cooked or raw garlic. I was a cooked fooder who thought it not at all excessive to put up to 7 cloves of the stuff into a stirfry.

Ah c'est bon...

LOl good, because I use bananas, and dates daily and i made rawvioli's last night with tomatoes and garlic! Omg they were so good, i could only eat 4, i can't believe how filling they are with the nut cheese wow. I have never ever had a side effect from garlic or onion, i don't munch on them plain but i couldn't make a sauce or dressing taste like much without them

Geebers! I SOOOOO couldn't imagine food without garlic or onions!!! They add so much flavor to any dish they're included in. Even as a cooked fooder I used liberal amounts of garlic. I LOVE the stuff!!! <lol> To me it's just not a proper meal if at least 1 dish doesn't have any garlic. :D

What's really good is making a crust batter with lots of raw garlic (like garlic, some flax meal, more garlic, some olive oil, sea salt, and another couple of garlic cloves), and dipping slices of onion in it, then placing on parchment or paraflexx or teflex sheets, and dehydrating for about 24 hours.

YUMMY!! OMG YUM YUM!! :p

when i first went raw i ate raw garlic all the time! nowadays, i try to stay away from it. it doesn't really give me any negative bodily effects that i can tell, but it has just become so spicy to me, i almost can't handle it. also, i don't eat onions anymore because they make me feel mucus-y and sort of give me a headache.

I can't stand garlic, raw or cooked. Never could. I find most of the recipes I've tried from Alissa's book contain waaaay too much garlic for my taste. I can handle one clove at the most in a recipe, but often I just leave it out entirely.

Not only do I not like the taste of it, but if I eat too much it gives me stomach pains.

Oh friends... I have learned something new about my friend garlic. Last night I was at a rawfood potluck with an expert of 17 years and asked her about garlic. She told me that is actually toxic and penetrates the blood brain barrier and totally disrupts brain wave readings. So I looked it up online and sure enough I found this article.

http://www.relfe.com/health_benefits_of_garlic.html

I do not know if the damage is permanent or not, but i may have to say good bye to garlic and onions as I would never actually sit down and eat it by themselves.

Also garlic and onions is toxic to dogs and cats if they eat more than a small quantity.. Hmm

Another good one Veronica is this site: http://www.rawfoodexplained.com/
Garlic and onions are on the left number 36.

I love garlic and onion still however I only eat it on special occasions now when it is mixed in with the recipe.

I have tried to cut way back on it because I am tired of my boyfriend telling me I smell like garlic. He's not mean about it. Calls me his garlic girl. I want to be his vanilla girl, so I'm upping the fruit and vanilla. :)

Oh dear, now I will have to cut garlic and onions out of my diet.. NOT!

It's all good people, relax, stuff in moderation....

Thanks for the link. I want to find out more about this and what it actually means if its interupting your brain waves. I wonder what other foods do that too.

I LOVE garlic and onions. It's really unfortunate though because I totally cannot eat them at ALL. They give me crazy heartburn and gas. Even a small amount. Most recipes use one or the other. It's really a bummer, especially considering how amazingly tasty onion bread is, or better yet, most anything containing one or both of the ingredients!

Garlic is an amazing blood cleaner, parasite killer, and blood pressure reducer.
Perhaps viewing it more as an herb, a healing herb, used in moderation, rather than as a vegetable to be eaten in copious amounts, is the key.

Personally, I love garlic and onions :p
