View Full Version : Is this a typical reaction to going raw?

I am on day 12 of a 100% raw vegan diet. Up until the last 2 days I have been loving it and feeling great. However, for 2 days now, just after eating my lunch I have had a spell of very mild nausea which lasted several hours. It felt as though my body was wanting to expel something but not quite sure which end to release it from, if you know what I mean. Yesterday I layed down in the afternoon for a couple of hours until it passed, and then felt just fine. Today, at the same time, right after lunch, I had the same feeling, only this time I did vomit. I felt much better. However, at the moment, the mere thought of another salad is just not appealing.
My question is - has anyone experienced this sort of thing in the early days of going raw? Does it sound like something I ate is not agreeing with me, or does it sound like a detox symptom? (Prior to this way of eating, I would have to say my diet was mediocre, meaning I always make an attemp to include healthy foods in my diet, but also had a tendency to overindulge on the bad things in the evenings, like ice cream and such. I've done the Master Cleanser several times over the years and never had a bad detox reaction.)

sounds like detox. It will pass and you'll feel even better after you get through it than you did before.

I am on day 16 and I have not had any detox symptoms other than fatigue. I did find that too many nuts make me feel really naseus especially with salad. I felt dizzy once at the end of the night eating cashews after dinner and had to lay down.

Keep a food diary and make notes of how you feel and look for a pattern. It may be that some one food or combination is bothering you.
Hopefully it will not happen again. Do not let it put you off.

Thanks for the input! I've only been drinking water and had one glass of carrot/apple juice since throwing up about 6 hours ago. I'll start fresh tomorrow and hope for the best. I will keep track of what I eat, and I'm also going to cut back on the snacking of nuts and seeds. I tend to have quite a few sunflower seeds while preparing my salad, and today was no different, and on top of that, there were pumpkin seeds in that last salad I had (and most salads I eat, for that matter - my variety is lacking!).
I'd love to think this was a detox reaction - I love thinking my body is working hard at getting rid of the gunk, and also knowing that this will pass.
Thanks guys!

Day 5 into eating raw I felt as if I had the flu. I as nausous, sick, just flu like symptoms. Total detox. It lasted on and off for 7 days. I'm at 5 weeks now and still have mild detox but nothing like when I first began. I came off of a SAD diet so I knew my detox would be rough. It gets better but I sitll have days.
Today is only day 2 for me, but I had major nausea and fatigue. My arms felt so darn heavy, and I was sweating and got super grouchy (no headaches, though) today. I thought perhaps I was coming down with something, so I laid down with a big bowl incase I had to toss my "cookies", but I actually fell asleep. When I woke up I felt much better. The fatigue is still lingering a bit and my arms are still a little heavy, but the nausea is gone and I feel more or less fine. Strange. I expected soda-withdrawl headaches big time, but I havent had any of that...yet. :)

Nausea is a sign that your body is trying to cleanse itself. Just like everyone here has stated...definitely a sign of detox...

Yesterday evening detox hit me on my 19. day of my rawjourney.
OK, it was my own fault, I bought some raw dairy product and consumed a bit.
Three hours later I was kind of digesting and then it came over me, it started with ague, this much, that I needed to put somethig bewteen my teeth because I wasn't able to stop it, then nausea and a very strongly working abdomen.
I took 2 enemas and it faded away, this morning everythings fine again.
Stupid me, I should have known it better.

Experiencing cleansing reactions is not necessarily detox. Toxins being loosened up and released into the bloodstream does not mean that an individual is able to eliminate them, which would constitute detox. Enemas and other supportive mechanisms which open the detoxification pathways would help. There seems to be a misunderstanding about what detox is.

Are you eating the same type of greens every day? Maybe you need to vary them?

Today is day 4 for me, and the last 2 days have been pretty crappy. Nausea and stomach irritability. Last night, I made raw spaghetti, and well 'lost my dinner' about 1.5 later. Felt a little better this morning, but still not a great day.
