How long does it take to chew your smoothie?
Perhaps one should gulp it down then chew a gum afterwards to save time?

or I guess one could just sip/chew it while on the computer

i love tim's videos, but after watching that i began to chew my smoothies and my teeth turned colors!

i brush with baking soda which generally does a very good job keeping my teeth white...but after chewing on a smoothie for an hour (my smoothies are usually pretty large) everyday, my teeth were turning slightly red, green, purple--people even commented on it! haha, it was a little embarassing. i have stopped chewing my smoothies and my teeth are looking good again ;)

does anyone else chew their smoothies? if so, are you teeth still white?!

Don't listen to the guy in the video. The active enzymes in your saliva really only help with complex carbohydrates- so unless you put lots of wheat or potatoes/starchy things in there, don't be too worried.

why not just swish it in your mouth before you swallow? that's what n.w.walker recommends.

Swishing wont do anything either. If "saliva" is what counts, you wont release any in that short period of time (during the swish)

I like chewing my smoothies because chewing stimulates digestion. Chewing tells your stomach "food is on the way, get ready!" Also, it makes the delicious, delicious smoothies last longer.

I chew the first couple of mouthfuls. After that I figure that my tummy knows what is coming.
Not ideal I know but I need to live in the real world and do the best that I can.

Could you back up this with a source? I don't know who to believe.

believe what *you* believe. Your observations are valid too.

I like my smoothies thickened with frozen fruit, which brings out the chewing response whether I want to chew or not, so I do. I drink all 32+ ounces within 15-20 minutes and brush my teeth immediately afterwards. My teeth have never been white (my Mom was on pills for acne when she was pregnant with me), and I can't really tell if they are getting green or not. ;)

jurence is right...except according to wiki, some enzymes break down fat a bit too. This is all just predigestion anyway, nothing detrimental.
