Every time I attempt raw I hit a "sugar" road block. I am SOO addicted. Any suggestions?
Can someone help me.:(
Any tips, tricks?
How long will sugar detox take? Will it be a long struggle?

eat DATES. not sure if thats the kind of advice youre looking for, but organic dates are good for you; theyre a whole-food sweetner and they have other good stuff in them too. there are different varieties that taste different, you can use them as sweetner, eat on their own, pop em in the freezer for a different texture, stuff them with nut butter or nuts or dip in raw chocolate...ok i dont know if im helping....because it sounds like maybe you want to STOP the sugar, but i would try replacing it with healthier sweetners first. dates are my fav and i dont feel bad at all about eating them. just my 2 cents worth...

i heard somewhere (i believe it was victoria boutenko) saying that when we crave sweets we need more calcium. she suggests blending up some sesame seed milk and drinking it on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. do this for a couple of weeks and your sweet cravings should be gone--or at least, much more manageable!

I love sweets too. Green smoothies help cravings. I always make sure I have desserts around. Banana ice cream, carob chocolate sauce, chocolate mouse pie, shakes, and Alissa's almond butter balls. Having the carob or chocolate sauce made up has saved me many times. In a pinch I have put it over bananas or just eaten a tablespoon by itself. I do find if I go overboard on raw desserts, I crave lots of greens afterwards.

trust me, the desire DOES go away! I am the biggest sugar junkie i know! In high school I was known to eat sugar packets off of restaurant tables. I would drink slushees mostly every day after school, and go to the dollar store and buy candy by the box! dont even get me started on what I would buy/eat when special holiday candy (halloween, valentines, easter, etc!) would come out!!!
Dates are definitely a good treat! True, it's not the same and it never will be, but your desire for these fake sugar candies does go away. If you're really struggling, buy some organic candy made with evaporated or dehydrated cane juice. I bought some lollipops from Toys R Us once because the ingredients were pretty okay, and that satisfied me for a while.
Also, I just remembered: Emergen-C! It's like Fun Dip and Pop Rocks in one! AND it's healthy because it's vitamins!!! I stick my licked finger in the packet and eat it like that :p The trick is not to eat too much, because vitamin C in large doses can give you diarrhea. Luckily, I haven't had that problem. I have been known to have up to 3 packets in a single day before.
I hope this helped, and best of luck to you!!

I am a total Sugar Addict! Especially w/chocolate and what I have found is helping me is eating lots of sweet-juicey fruits and Sweet Green Smoothies. I am feeling more refreshed, energetic, and cravings are decreasing.

I like the suggestions here about using dates. Feasting on them when you get a sugar craving might get you over the road block.

Go cold turkey that is the only way. Eating sweets like dates and the like only prolongs it. I know from experience and sugar is highly adictive. I went cold turkey 4 years ago. I use to be a total shugar junky so I had craving for about 2 weeks but I have heard that it usaly only takes a couple of days for most people. Make shure you eat plenty of foods and try to go low fat. Fat and sugary stuff makes your blodsugar go haywire. I found fruits to be really good when I need somting sweet. But "real" food that gives you a full feeling while detoxing the sugar might be the bedst choise.
I have found that spirulina really helps on stabelising the blodsugar and I usaly takes it first thing in the morning on empty stomac with plenty of water. It keeps me going for houres.
But the trick is to eat... not to wait untill the blodsugar gets low and you end up eating somting you dident want to.
If you have problems going 100% raw because of the sugar issue, then I think it would be wiser to go gradualy raw. maby 75-80% raw with somting like brown rice, amarant, quinoa for the cooked part. When you are ready you can go more and more raw. Green smoothies are a great thing to transision on :D
