Welcome!
There are many of us who have to watch our pennies so there'll be lots of assistance for that.
As for the exotic stuff, you don't need it, it's a nice to have. There are heaps of yummy recipes using plain old fruit and veg!

Welcome Elizabeth. You can make plenty of tasty inexpensive meals such as soups, salads with tasty dressings, lettuce or nori wraps, zucchini pasta, marinated veggies, puddings, shakes.

Hi Elizabeth, welcome to rawfoodtalk.
I would drop the diet coke immediately, it stimulates the appetite to make you hungry, it causes gas, it has added sugar, it's really bad for your health.
Good luck on going full raw, here to help if you need anything:)

Chicken cost more than tilapia, so let the bird go and cut your fish serving in 1/2 until you are decidely and comfortably vegan. That alone will free up more loot for some good stuff.
Ditto with the soda. You might need a threee day weekend to go somewhere alone and chill with out the cola so you can experience the withdrawl if any without feeelig grumpy are agitated by others.
Wether you buy daily individual bottles or in bulk. Cola is an expensive crack like habit, and we've all had a costly habit or too;)
ENJOY THE JOURNEY

HI Elizabeth,
I just joined this tonight. I know it is so hard when you have a situation of your weight to carry around, but by the time you feel really good, you will have your attention on what you want and your physicality will change and follow suit without thinking of the lack, but thinking of what you want.

Welcome Newkidstxgirl AND Stellabean...
Nice to have you!
Elizabeth: Yes, I have to third the advice to immediately give up the diet soda...it's pure poison!!! (And yes, I know how difficult it is to give it up; I was addicted to Diet Coke for years, and I just overcame a 20-year addiction to coffee...)
Best to you both!!

Hey Elizabeth,
Welcome. I am only 7 weeks into the raw scene so I know how expensive it can be to start. I was SAD eating all the way before this so I understand how the cravings can be. The first few weeks I was on it, I did try lots of new recipes to try and get over the cravings. The zucchini spaghetti worked well for me and trying the soups like corn chowder really helped. It's amazing that now I don't crave warm food anymore. The spices used in alot of recipes helps warm you when you eat and I guess tricks your body into feeling warm. I also have made some of the deserts to get over the sugar cravings. The chocolate chip cookies made in the dehydrator solve that. I was addicted to food and cooking before going raw so trying new recipes was kind of fun. I have found now that the simpler meals are satisfying and I don't feel the need to do all the difficult things. I do fruit smoothies for breakfast. Salads with mock tuna salad or mock cheese on crackers for lunch and then raw soup or fruit for supper usually. For snacks in the afternoon if I get hungry is fruit or raw nuts. I was depressed through the holidays but this has given me more energy and more self esteem since I have lost 10 lbs. I was at 202 to start so I still have a long way to go but it feels good moving in the right direction. Good luck to you and stay in touch here to keep motivated. It really helps.
