OK, i just hands down cant afford organic oranges here, and they are in short supply anyway. my body seems to be craving oranges this whole winter; i was just in spain for 2 months and was eating 4 or 5 a day. i dont know if the ones there were doused with chemicals; i didnt wash before using because i was hiking and it wasnt possible, so i just ate and didnt worry about it. now, coming back here, i see on the label of the oranges and lemons in the stores here that they have the above-listed chemicals used as fungicides. ACK! my fruit options are already SO limited here that i dont want to give up the oranges (i already gave up apples if i cant get them organic, mangoes from the shops tend to rot before they ripen, probably because they are hot water treated, wont use non organic grapes or strawberries, etc..) but i hate to think if i am putting loads more poisons in my body by using them. so,
1. what is the best way to clean/wash/remove the chemicals from the skin so that i am not ending up with the fungicides on my hands when peeling and then end up consuming them when i touch the fruit? ive been using natural dishsoap and a bit of tea tree but im not really confident in this... ive read to use clorox bleach but that it has to be clorox and i havent seen clorox bleach here
2. is the inner fruit contaminated by the fungicides...ie do they soak in? do i need to give up my beloved oranges (and lemons)?
ARGH
thanks
