Have you ever thought about what you are going to do when you get too old to fix your food? I was thinking about this after reading Matt Monarchs article(I think it was his) on reverting back to cooked after being raw for a while. How it makes you sicker than before. I could just picture me being older and healthy but just not able to do everything regarding shopping/uncooking, etc.. Then my kids decide to put me in a nursing home and they give me cooked food and then I croak because it makes me too sick. What are you going to do? I mean, I know that many here will never have to have someone else take care of you but what if?

You are TOOOOOOOOOO Funny. I know you just wanted to talk to some Adults. I'll NEVER get too old to fix MY own Food. I agree, I won't trust anyone else to fix it for me, for sure they will think I need some meat and feed me a cow.
Thanks for this Fun Thread. Have a RAW Day.

Haha! By the time I'm too old to make my own food there'll be raw friendly retirement villages.
Just like now there are veg friendly (and some completely veg) retirement homes, in decades time there'll be raw ones.
Juuust you wait!

I often thought about what would happen if I could not see to fix my food but never fear about being too old to do it.
I am so fussy about my food and the fear that a fly would land on it and things like that that I think I would just stop eating if I could not see my food. I guess that I would just have to get over myself and get my priorities right.
I will never be too old to peel a banana or spoon a papaya out of it's skin or pop a few nuts in my mouth.

Well, David Wolfe is older than me(I think) so surely he has thought of this. I just have to wait till he gets old. Oh the beauty of being on the young-er end of the raw food movement.

I think part of the point of raw eating is that you don't get frail when you get older.

I can't imagine getting to old to pop some grapes into my mouth or enjoy some other simple raw foods. As for transportation a neighbor of mine has a "scooter" and he goes to the store and gets stuff all the time with no more effort then sitting down and moving the joy stick with the thumb and index fingers of his right hand. Occasionally I see him getting on the scooter friendly bus and going downtown. I also don't worry about losing my eyesight because raw foods provides plenty of the nutrients needed for eye health. I have heard that raw eaters do get sick if they have to eat SAD so I guess I'll just have to do my best to avoid that problem. I do have concerns about Alzheimer's and mental facilities - I don't know if raw helps avoid that problem or not ?

No.
...my kids decide to put me in a nursing home and they give me cooked food and then I croak because it makes me too sick.
So, you're dead. Will you still care?
What are you going to do? I mean, I know that many here will never have to have someone else take care of you but what if?
Yeah, what if? What if I die in an auto accident before I get old? What if the world ends? What if? What if? What if?
My concern is today. I don't "worry" about the future. It'll take care of itself. Always has, always will.

Revell, I can always tell your responses even without looking at who posted them.
You're quite the individual. :)

I would never put my mom in a nursing home, because it's so against her culture. It would completely break her heart, and I might as well kill her off myself. Same goes for my aunt & uncle.
Not that I'm against nursing homes. I completely understand why there is a need for them. For my mom, she'd prefer to die than be in one. She would be so heart broken. Now if her memory were to go, then that will be another situation. I work hard everyday to keep my mom in the best health as possible. So she is living vibrantly until her last breath.
As for me, I haven't thought about it myself.

Not everyone gets frail when they are old. My grandpa is 93 years old, and goes out of state to gamble all the time and he has been eating old-school meat & potatoes his whole life! I know he is an anomaly, but nothing is set in stone. He has also been active his whole life and has a great attitude. Personally I plan on doing yoga and eating raw until the day I die. I think people fall into the "inevitability" of growing old, but it is a myth if you stay healthy and positive. Also if you ate raw food for that long you probably wouldn't be that into long food prep anyways. Just eating very simply, fruit & veg.

I understand what you mean.
If you were to have a stroke or alzheimers or any other situation which prevented you from being able to make decisions for yourself--would they keep you raw...?
Perhaps write it into a living will. Perhaps call it a strict adherance to religious doctrine.
Write your own study containing all the reasons and references for future doctors/your children to defend your decisions.
As long as you can talk and think--you will be fine.

This is true. And when you get older you tend to eat less so that is a good sign. I am praying that since I have 6 kids at least one of them will still love me and take me in! LOL Maybe I could stay with each of them for 2 months out of the year and just rotate :) Then they wouldn't get sick of me...

No, can't say I've ever thought about it. I try my best to stay present. But know that you have caused me to think on it, I'm confident that my family will take care of me and have my best interest at heart.

I've been reading Deepak Chopra's Ageless Body, Timeless Mind, and he does make a good point that people generally get just as old as they think they will!
Personally, I'm not getting old, and I'll never die. So far, so good. :p

I was thinking about that today as I walked past a nursing home. I would go on a hunger strike. :p
