I just want to share the plan i just found and signed on with
I know for many people here there is a political and financial component to making these decisions but I am really happy about getting this plan.
It will be my first health insurance in over 10 years....and since summer is coming and i want to ride motorcycles and climb mountains it needed to happen.
this plan is through Group Health
individual plan 83.00 month
unlimited office visits, 3 to a naturopath
unlimited lab work
preventive care such as acupuncture and chiro for 30.00 copay no deductible issue!!!!!!!!!!!
anyway I spend 83.00 on all sorts of Bull*** so this is great
please don't ask me a bunch of questions, google it
and get an agent
insurance agents are FREE to you, get paid by the company
just wanted to share. it felt like really good self-care to take of this

You should at least give a link I think?...
Sounds like a great hippie plan, did you read any of the fine print?

I have to say if I were still riding, I can't imagine a chiro, naturopath or acupuncturist would help me much if I laid my bike down. Actually, I did lay my bike down and I WORKED for a chiro at the time. He didn't do a thing for me that I couldn't do for myself or with the help of my teacher/bodywork thereapist who doesn't take insurance.
IF I'd hurt myself worse, none of the above would have helped either. If I fell off a mountain? Nahhhh!
Thank you for sharing but I still can't see it. Someone might though. :)

I know your in Washington State, too. We have an individual policy direct with Lifewise (formerly Blue Cross). There is a $2500 deductible but it is excluded for preventative care and 6 office visits per year. If we did not have this plan, we would be bankrupt. My husband had gall bladder surgery last year. The surgeons and 4 days in the hospital cost over $30,000. Accidents happen, too, and most auto insurance policies cap out at $50,000. My Brother-In-Law spent a month in the hospital recovering from a motorcycle accident. He had a concussion and 3 broken limbs. Total cost $300,000.
Without an insurance policy and a preferred provider under contract to that insurance company, you are going to pay more than twice as much.
Example: The hospital bills $30,000. The insurance company reduces the bill to $14,000.
It's like paying one mafia to protect you from another mafia. The healthcare system in this country sucks.

There IS no health care system in this country. It's called "sick" care which is why we NEED to care for ourselves. As I've stated many times before, most people aren't willing (or able) to give up what they would need to to create a decent HEALTH care system so, they might as well put that money where it can earn high interest and purchase organic and take responsibility for what they can.

** falls off chair**
I actually work for a health insurance company here in Australia and wonder why people bother to take out comprehensive hospital insurance. People grumble about an $800 out of pocket expense here.
But we have a pretty good public hospital system here. I just CANNOT believe you'd be out of pocket $30,000 let alone $100,000 for essential stuff!!!
If you guys haven't watched Michael Moore's sicko yet, you really should, we non Americans really are that flabbergasted at your terrible health care system! In a country like yours!
I just don't even want to think what happens to the unfortunate people in the US who need essential stuff and simply can't afford it. It's just not a factor here.

Trust me. Those numbers are accurate. Our share of the surgery and hospitalization costs for my husband's gall bladder emergency cost us $5,400 out of pocket. We had to pay the $2,500 deductible and 25% of the remaining fees. Since we are in our 50s the monthly cost of this insurance policy is $243 each, per month. For the two of us and our child we pay $558 a month for medical insurance. The monthly cost increases $75-$100 every year. I don't know how much longer we can continue to pay for it.
The good news....the doctors did save my husband's life.
As for my Brother-In-Law. The $300,000 for his medical expenses included numerous surgeries to fix his legs and one arm. The damage was so extensive it was touch and go for the first week. In another country (Not-saying yours), or even another city, he might have died from the trauma before he got to the hospital, and in most countries he would have lost a limb or two at the very least.
There are government programs and charities that will help some people pay their medical expenses, but you have to be poor. If you have an income and choose not to buy health insurance you will not get any assistance in paying your medical bills.
While our medical care is top notch, the total bill (I heard) is $1 out of every $6 is spent supporting our medical industry.
Sorry, I probably should have found someplace else to vent....but there it is anyway.
I have not seen the movie "Sicko". I will have to do that.

Nah, vent away here! I'm actually concerned is all. Hope all is well with your husband now. :)
Our medical standards are pretty top notch here as well. Although the only time I've had to make use of them was in childhood rushed to emergency for an operation for inflamed hips and one knee due to arthritis, no charge.
Then the next time was when I had my son, at a public hospital at a really good birthing ward, great experience except for one terrible midwife, again no charge.
A top cover here (hospital and extras like dental, optical, chiro, physio, massage, acupuncture etc.) would probably cost around $300-$400 (AUS a month) which is around $190-$260 US. But younger people take out less coverage to suit their lifestyles.
I have private cover (I get my part of it for free, but pay for my sons part and the extras) but many don't. I didn't have private insurance till I started working for an insurance company at the age of 32. to be honest I'd never even thought about it.
I guess this is why we all need to be so aware of our health, in order to prevent those things that we can prevent. Raw is a REALLY good way of preventing a range of things people get hospitalised for. That's all we can do really, manage the risks.

That is so true. I hope to never need major medical care again. My food is my medicine. :)
Hubby is okay now, but he still won't listen to me about the crap he eats, even without a gall bladder he thinks he is invincable.
