Good Morning Folks,

I got hold of some nutritional yeast yesterday for the 1st time and imagine my surprise when I stuck my finger in the bag, to find that it did NOT taste like cheese! Will it taste more chesse-like once I add it to some recipes? Or will I mentally have to convince myself that that bitter sandpaper flavor is cheese?

Peace

I find adding it to various recipes enhances the flavor and does make it somewhat "cheeze" tasting. I would never have tasted it plain though! Yuck! Hope that doesn't turn you off from using it.

OK. I'll take your word for it and get back to you.....

I've never found it to taste like cheese in recipes. I just don't find it a useful or necessary ingredient. If I want cheese, I just use a simple recipe with few ingredients.

I sprinkle it on kale with olive oil and dehydrate it. It tastes kind of salty cheesy. Real cheese flavour - uh no!!:)

I ate it in a cooked recipe once, a veggie mac and cheese. I decided to re-live my Kraft days, and I stuck my finger in the dry "cheese" mixture and BLECH! It was awful. Then I added it to the macaronis and it was okay, pretty cheesey. But then, I felt really sick afterwards :( Makes sense, it was cooked...but my point is that when you use it in recipes, it tastes cheesey

It tastes "cheesier" when you have some salt along with that. Think about it, regular dairy cheeses mostly have some salt in them. Olive oil, a bit of nutritional yeast, a bit of hot sauce and salt make a fast combo for something like squash or zucchini noodles. Almost like a cheesy ramen, with none of the junk or the guilt - LOL!
