You've got Whole Foods and a really great natural grocery store there in Scottsdale. Check those and check the ethnic food stores. I'm pretty sure you'll find them.
Which "really great" natural grocery store do you speak of?
We have TJ's, Sprouts, AJ's...

GIRL!!! Do the research! Sheesh! You live there! Call them and ask if they carry them!
I asked a girl at TJ and she had no idea what kind of coconut I was talking about.
I will call Whole Foods!
Sorry, it sounded like you knew a lot about this area... I just moved up here 3 weeks ago.

I was there for a 3-day speaking engagement. We did the research before going. You've been there longer than me.

My Whole Foods has them and that's the only place, so far, that I can find them. Asian market would have it, i would think.

I can't find them in my area either. I have a whole foods but it's 60 min away. I have a local co-op but they only have organic coconuts not the baby ones. So I have just been getting those.

In MD, I've seen them in Shopper's Food Warehouse, and my 2 local Korean markets. :)
Any big Asian markets in your area? Try them out.

rftm0115- Oh wow, thanks so much. There is a Shoppers near my sister in Baltimore so when I travel to see her I will make a stop and load up.. I wish they had them at Shop Rite because one just opened up by me. I live on the border/ upper end of Md close to DE. I will check and see if they have a Shoppers out that way. Thanks for the heads up. I appreciate it.
?- while we are on the subject of coconuts. If you have a regurlar coconut and you take it out of the husk/shell it has the brown color on it above the white meat.. Do you trim that brown off or just eat it since it isn't tough. I was making coconut balls the other night and wasn't sure if I should trim it and then put it in the food processor or just shove it in like it was.

Thanks for that! My asian markets don't have them, my Whole Foods doesn't have them. I went out to eat last weekend at a vegan restaurant and they were serving them at 3.95/each and I was thinking of asking to buy some unopened ones from them :) I will try Shopper's though.

I have found them at a small Asian store in West Olympia and at Top Foods so far. I have not yet ventured out of Olympia to get them.

The 2 Korean markets are called H-Mart & Lotte. I prefer Lotte over H-mart, b/c their produce is fresher and better priced, too. Lotte is where I snagged my 2 for $1 cantaloupes. :D Ad attached.
There have actually been times that I've found young Thai coconuts cheaper at SFW. Those days are rare though. :p

I love Lotte, they have lots of stuff, even durian and jackfruit but the one near me doesn't have coconuts. It looks like an H-mart recently opened near me so I'm going to have to go look at it.

What Asian store? The Food co-op doesn't have them. Which Top Foods? Black Lake Blvd? I think I looked at Fred Meyer in Tumwater a couple of weeks ago, but they didn't have them, either.

My Safeway doesn't have coconuts but I did go to H-mart and bought 5 young coconuts last night (at 1.29/each), they had the young coconuts, brown coconuts and white coconuts. Are the other 2 as good or are young coconuts the best?
Unfortunately, I don't know how to pick out coconuts so 2 of the 5 I've opened so far were bad.

Young coconuts are best IMO in terms of taste -- soft flesh & tasty coconut juice. mmm... the water of life, baby. :D And aren't white coconuts the same as young coconuts?
I don't know how to pick out coconuts either. I usually look at the size and whiteness making sure there's no mold. Then I shake the coconut near my ear to listen for liquid. I haven't picked a bad one yet.
For some reason, the produce quality from H-Mart has been declining which is why I shop mainly Lotte for fresh produce now. You might also have better luck at SFW.
But definitely Lotte. Yours might carry the young coconuts. You should ask someone to find out. It's people like me that wipe out their stock in one visit. I'm sorry. :o

Yeah I haven't seen them at Lotte but Lotte's produce is also iffy sometimes. Some things I avoid there, other thing I know I have to use quickly. The white coconuts I saw at H-mart had a white exterior similar to the brown coconuts.
