Hope that everyone is well-
I have been on this site now (more at a persuing level) for about 9 monthes and have had raw days, vegan days, and what most people might call "healthy SAD days...LOL". Most of my days, regardless of the rest of the food, include a green smoothie and a GIGNORMOUS salad. I'm now stringing together my raw days and am in day 3. I am also doing some heavy training--about 16-18 hours of swimming, biking and running---right now I feel great--endurance athletes ask me all of the time what the do about protein/calcium/sports drinks/bars etc. Race season starts in 3 weeks, so I'll keep you posted. I plan to drink only coconut water and regular water during my long races--typically people drink water and gatorade, sports drinks, soft drinks, etc.

Have a fantastic day

Wow, this is just another in the chain of coincidences!

I decided a couple of days ago to start running and today picked a run to train for which is in May.

It's only a small one, I'm starting small as I haven't really ran for about 15 years, but I want to make use of all this energy and I have a feeling that if I train up I could do quite well with my diet being raw.

So I log onto one of my regular veg forums and there's someone asking about triathlons and what to eat when running, which I've never seen on that forum before. Then I log in here and I see yet another training/triathlon/running post, which again I dont see here very often, in this part of the forum anyway!

Maybe the universe is trying to tell me something!

Coconut water, yes I'd planned to include this as my sports drink (possibly THE BEST sports drink in existence).

I'm also upping my green smoothie and juice intake as well, I feel this helps with endurance and energy.

Any other tips?

Triathletes do three times in a row.

I just started, but I will succeed in a Triathlon soon.

I will type more later--today is day 4 of Raw and I feel GREAT. I think that one of the keys is my raw oatmeal in the morning LOADED with flax meal and chia seeds. I think that where some athletes fail is that they don't take in ENOUGH calories.
I eat avocados, nuts (really into nut taco meat right now), lots of veggies and fruits. The green smoothie is key too!
Have a great day

Its really not that much, and no, it is weekly but you need to do those kinda hours for long distance tri training--
thanks so much for the well wishes!

Les, are you doing an Ironman this year? My husband is doing his second Ironman in June (Coeur d'Alene). I have decided to do a small half iron distance in September. I have been raw for 11 days so I don't have any words of wisdom yet but I have been doing all my regular workouts without any problem. I tried the coconut water and I can't just drink it. I will probably do a smoothie for breakfast with it in there. My husband loves it though. He is experimenting with raw now.

Good luck with your raw training!!

Hello,
Please check out the Thrive Diet. It is very Raw, maybe not 100%, but is a great resource for training for endurance sports. Brendan is very knowledgeable and he is a professional tri athlete, oh and he is Raw. Check it out. His book has recipes for Raw energy drinks, energy bars, night before race dinners, smoothies, etc.

Good luck!

I am doing IM Lake Placid--July 26th--and hope to return to Hawaii for the World Championships in October. Did you try fresh coconut water?--big difference IMO from the canned stuff. I bought 10# of raw oats from the sprout house and soak a bowlful overnight. Getting the calories is not a problem for me. I am a chef by training so I find the "research" fascinating.
Today I had:
Breakfast-Raw Wrap with Taco meat, carrot, avocado, braggs, sprouts
Lunch-Raw Oat "Smoothie" Oats, 1 apple, 1 banana, pkt Stevia, 1 heaping Tbsp raw chocolate, flax meal and chia seeds
6 flax crackers
6 Medjool Dates
2 Tbsp raw almond butter
1 ea: Pear, Banana and Grapefruit
1 large salad: Butter lettuce, carrot, cabbage, Sprouts, Braggs, Cashew Sour Cream, Avocado and more of that great Raw Taco Meat--The salt/savory makes a great addition to a raw diet--found it on this site

Workouts were light today--about 1.5 hours of biking/running combined.
Have a great night

Familiar with it, but will prob read up on it. Is Brendan still on the Tri scene? I get the impression that he is more of a distance runner...

I ran 14 miles on Saturday and my friend who has been doing raw with me and running brought along a coconut water drink that she got the recipe for from the Thrive Diet and I liked it so much better!! I have tried fresh coconut water and it is just too strongly flavored so I figured I would just do water and food on my runs but then I tried hers and it was sooooo palatable. It was with ginger and lemon juice. She actually used the coconut water from a box though, not fresh. Anyway I am giving coconut water a chance again after that. I think I will get that Thrive diet book for both my husband and I. I find it hard to feed him enough with IM training and I want him to take a little more responsibility if he is going to do it raw.

Thanks for the tips and good luck in Lake Placid (and hopefully Kona too!)
