I wonder. Is it a luxury to take the money and time to buy and use dehydrator or is it kind of necessity for a decent raw food diet?
I was thinking of living on smoothies almost exclusively once I get my blender.

Personally, I enjoy luxuries.
Living on smoothies? Jaws need to chew or the bones weaken.

of course, I'm keeping chewing the smoothies in mind, to add that saliva enzymes in there to help absorb the nutrients.

I'd buy a Vita-Mix first if I did not have one. You can live without a dehydrator. I don't consider it a luxury or nessitie. It's just a choice you make and sometimes like So many other thing, you might find yourself not using it as much.
You can always keep it in your Future plans especially if you want to live on Green Smoothies. You can chew on Fresh Fruit especiall with Summer, RAWonderful Summer around the Corner. You can also borrow My GrandMother's Dehydrator.........The SUN.

I'm not talking about "chewing the smoothies". In order for bones to stay strong, they need hard things such as carrots. All the nutrients/enzymes in the world wont keep bones strong w/out pressure.

depends on the definition of the word: to me a water fast is the biggest luxury ever. When I don't fast then biting into the food straight away without having to "prepare" it (why should I,-it's all ready for me :) )is another luxury I enjoy.

Trying to figure out how to put you back together with all this cracking up. *looks around* Hmmm. Glue? :D

Just turn your oven on to it's very lowest setting, prop open the door with a mug and presto...you have a free dehydrator!
Food should be touchable and just feel warm. Works excellently...although I don't have a real dehydrator to compare it to...and yes, it's a luxury...as is a vita-mix...as is a knife for that matter.
although it depends what you mean by decent...if you mean gourmet, yes, it's pretty staple. But again, just use your oven.

Ok, I'll chew on apples with the smoothie. Works as a natural toothbrush too.
