Sadly I have not read Alissa's book...I have really only read what is currently at my local Barnes & Noble...having financial woes :( along with so many other people. My project ended in Feb so I have been laid off since the 1st...thankfully I was eligible for UE...I wasn't sure if I would be or not due to the fact I hadn't worked since Dec 2005 when I had my back/neck injury. So figured since I am going to be off at least 2 months---NOW is my time to really crack down and get my body ready for the next project. The last one ran me over, then backed up over me again and I believe parked itself on my low back, so I know I need to get my physical self better prepped for the next go-round.

I had been stalking various raw sites and reading up on everyone's experiences. Then I found the before and afters on this site and decided WOW! maybe that will work for me. It really seems that RAW is the fountain of youth AND vitality so I figured ok let's do this!! I had really wanted to get back into a more veg based diet BUT the last time I did try that route [maybe due to my progressed age ] I GAINED weight so I was totally bummed. So what did I do, like an idiot...ATKINS!! I lost weight fast but ultimately I think that coupled with my daily pain, really aged me! Seriously, I look back at pictures of myself less than 2 yrs ago and it's like I have aged at least a decade in the past couple of years.

I don't have all the hi priced equipment and wont be able to get those items for awhile BUT I am trying new things and finding my groove. I'm not 100% because I cook for my hubby and I taste test for proper spice amounts--and my stuff is GOOD so I prob "taste" more than I should hahahha. So since this is an issue, I decided to cook ONE day a week and freeze several dishes for him. I'm lucky that he prefers veg dishes [although he MUST have his rice daily and usually a dish with potatoes too, yet he remains slender ] if I ate white rice and potatoes once a week I'd blow up!! I have tried to get him to do brown rice--he only goes for that maybe once a month if I'm lucky altho I suggest it weekly :D He is very supportive of anything I do. He even tries my new raw concoctions because I am so jazzed about it.

I have ordered some of the interesting things I have found on various sites i.e. kelp noodles, raw cacao, SunWarrior's activated barley, tahini, vanilla beans, and lots of raw seeds & nuts--that has been a mission and a half trying to find really RAW. I recently ordered some pre-made raw crackers from a site to try as well. This is still so new to me. I'm excited and overwhelmed due to so much contradicting info but I know Spirit always guides us where we need to go and be. Sadly, I have selective hearing and tend to not listen to my "little voice"...I'm a rebel! BUT I am finally learning to listen to my body. What works for me will never be exactly what works for anyone else. I am so thankful for the raw community. Everyone has been so encouraging, informative and uplifting. Who wouldn't want to be a part of this?!!

So I'm putzing along...eating better, feeling better, exercising more altho not at the gym--doing more activities I enjoy like walking and bike riding all over the place, saying my daily positive affirmations, getting a plethora of encouragement and helpful advice from veteran RAWsters, and trying to be more flexible in all areas of my being, learning how to listen & TRUST my inner voice. It's a daily adventure and yes I have stubbed my toe a few times BUT I'm still moving forward. I'm gonna keep on keepin' on!

Would love to hear from you.

I hope you find lots of good things you like in your raw venture. Looks like your off to a good start. Have you tried the library in your area? The library system in the County I live in (on the opposite side of the country) has a large variety of raw food books. I don't know if that is the norm or if it is a PacNW thing.

Cooking for the family is a challenge. I don't taste my cooking anymore. I've always cooked by testing rather than measuring. Now I do my best based on experience and hover over my family as they eat, asking how it is. Usually it works out, but there have been a couple of times I goofed. They don't complain, too much, LOL.

Good luck in your raw adventures. :)

Thanks for your post RawKnitster. I too ask my hubby how is it, how is it? He always says oh it's nice very tasty but I don't think he would tell me if it was bad unless it was absolutely inedible LOL

I made my first raw pasta with the kelp noodles yesterday. The texture is a little weird but overall I liked my combo. It was very tasty. I sent my husband a picture so he came home expecting a sample. I said luv it's RAW had to eat it right away

Artgirly you are the sweetest! Thanks for always making me smile with your positive mojo.

that's a beautiful story, isn't it?

glamazon: I'm raw since 2003 without any expensive equipment. That's the best part of raw: enjoy the simplicity of it and you'll be fine:)
Take care, Eva
