How do you know when you have enough greens in your smoothie? Is there a recipe for the amount of greens I should put in there?

What's "enough" for one may be too little/too much for another. Let me put it this way ~ when you have too much, you'll know it.

Everything depends on the sweetness/bitterness of the greens you use, how much you like/dislike them; the fruits you use, so no, in my experience, there is no set recipe for the amount you should use other than your own taste and experience; likes and dislikes.

Victoria Boutenko "Green For Life" recommends 65 percent greens and 35 percent fruit.... I think thats what it was.
Listen to your body and taste, that will tell you.

Exactly. Taste will be your teacher.

Over the months, you will acclimate to the "green" taste - and tolerate more without it bothering you.

It would be closer to the opposite of that. What Victoria recommended was based on the Chimpanzee diet.

Also from her book:

"based on how much fruit we consume in my family (about 4 or 5 pounds per day per person), I estimate that I need to eat about two good size bunches of dark leafy greens per person per day".

I'm still looking for an official definition of "bunch" when it comes to greens. . . . .

What we need and what we can usually handle right at the very start are two different things.

Start off with maybe only a handful (or however much you think you can handle) and work up from there. As someone else said, you'll get used to (and then maybe crave) the taste of greens as you progress.

I love my morning green smoothie!

What exactly is a bunch? anyone? does she mean a literal bunch that you buy at the store, or like a large handful? if it is the first of the two well...there's just no way.
also, 4-5 lbs of fruit per day seems like alot to me...does anyone else feel this way? maybe i am eating that much and just don't realize it. hmm...

I always take a "bunch" to mean a literal bunch that you buy in the store and a handful to mean, well, a large handful. I could be wrong though.

As for fruit, honestly, fruit is pretty heavy so I don't think it would take all that much to make 4 - 5 lbs. of it

And, of course, I take all of this information with a grain of salt and just listen to what my body needs instead of charts, pie graphs and "expert" opinions on the "best" ratios.

Thank you guys for answering my question. I really enjoy the green smoothies b/c they don't taste like greens. Just wanted to be sure that I was eating enough. This is the best site ever.
