Ok, so DH would yell at me that we don't actually live IN Buffalo, we're a couple of miles North of the city limits, and he'll tell you that we only live in a "town". But where I grew up, the cows outnumbered the people, and and the closest neighbor was half a mile away... so to me this *is* the city. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c57/Lokismom/Smilies/lol.gif

About me - I'm a slightly crunchy Catholic mom of 3. We cloth diaper, delay/selective vax, uncirc, babywear, use reuseable grocery bags. Pretty conservative though, DD and I only wear dresses/skirts out of the house, and they must be mid-calf or longer. DD goes to Catholic school, the class for ODS was already full though, so we were forced to send him to public school. My DH is in the Air Force Reserve, but he works for them as a civilian too, so he's gone a lot. We tried homeschooling, but it was just too much for me with a baby and DH gone so much.

ODS is also ADHD and ODD, so I'm hoping to switch him over to more raw foods too. Right now my DH is a little skeptical, he's agreed to try the rest of the family on a high raw diet if I do well on it. So I guess I'm the guinea pig. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c57/Lokismom/Smilies/lol.gif

Why am I trying it? I've been overweight pretty much my whole life, not horribly in elementary school, but by highschool I was in plus sized clothing, and now I fall into the morbidly obese side of the chart. :( I've tried all the diets, but I am *always* hungry, and all the counting, and measuring before I can eat anything, leaves me even more hungry, so I end up binging. I feel so tired, lethargic, achy, and sick feeling, even when I'm "healthy" I decided it was time to do something about it before life passes me by entirely. I just happened to meet someone who was raw, and I thought *YUCK!* no way! I could never do that, I *love* cooked foods, espescially baked goods and meat..... but as I started feeling sicker and sicker, I decided to eliminate foods that I'm allergic to. (not horrible allergies, which is why I still eat them) But that eliminates wheat (and rice bread tastes awful) pork and beef (as well as a few other things) What are you left with? fruits, veggeis, and chicken. So, I thought I'd at least give my friend's raw diet a try so that I could get all of the allergens out of my system.

I'm finding that after just two days I'm starting to feel a little better, I can breathe a little better, I'm not hungry at all, and I had a tiny little piece of the kids's organic toaster pastry this morning (they wanted me to try the new flavor) and it just tasted chalky to me, when any other day I'd have a hard time stopping at just two whole pastries.

So wish me luck, I'd love to feel *good* again, and be able to run and play with my kids, and enjoy doing things with them instead of just sitting on the sidelines.

Maybe I know her!! I work at the gym and I was a travel agent for 15 years. Springville is a small, friendly town!! I'm glad you found raw - it's amazing! I know of at least one raw potluck in the area, which meets once a month. In fact, it's tomorrow. I've gone a few times when it used to be on a Friday night, but now that they have it on Sunday afternoon, it's just not convenient for me. I really enjoyed going, though, and have had some wonderful raw dishes, which others have brought to the pot luck. They also have a speaker or a special feature such as a video. It's held at the Crossroads Christian Church in Elma. Awhile back, the special feature was Rev Malkmus from Hallelujah Acres and the Hallelujah Diet. He was amazing and very enthusiastic about the raw food lifestyle. You will meet alot of raw foodists if you go to their pot luck! Lori is in charge of the pot luck and her website is www.gimmegoodstuff.com. She and her daughter make and sell wonderful raw food things. There is a girl named Donna who works at the Feel Rite on Transit in Williamsville - she comes to the pot lucks and is also very knowledgeable about the Raw food way of life!! Small world, huh? I posted on 1/2/08 about the many options here in our area. Double click under "buffalogal" in the "posted by" at the top of this post. Then go to "find all posts by buffalogal". Then look for the date. Good luck with this wonderful journey! Take care!!:D

I doubt you know her, but you might know DHs Uncle - Ed Phillips - he co-owns the Franklin Street Storage, and lives right next to it. My MIL lives in one of the apartments in the back.

I know all about Wegmans and Feel Rite, I live just a stone's throw from the ALberta Dr Wegmans in Amherst, and the Feel Rite on Maple. It's like the only advantage to living in the "city" Wegmans and Tim Hortons. LOL

I have given up coffee for now, but I don't think I could go the rest of my life without a cup of Tim Horton's Coffee. mmmmmm... lol Maybe I'll change my mind as I start to feel better.
