View Full Version : Tea and antioxidants
Hi everyone! I hope all is well! When i first went raw, about 2 years ago, i stopped drinking my beloved teas. Maybe 8 or so months back after doing much research i have reintroduced teas (mostly herbal, black, and less green) the antioxidants are abundant, each tea providing tremendous benefits, different for each type. The teas require specific (high) temperatures for brewing for maximum benefit, so a sun tea just doesn't cut it.
I was wondering everyone else's take, do you still drink hot tea?

I still drink tea, I know it's not raw, we're going into Autumn now and it's a bit cooler, so I personally don't mind having a cup or tea or two a day when the rest of my diet is high raw, all vegan :) I am having a cup or black tea w/ rice milk (not raw) and then sometimes a cup of sporale tea (high in antioxidants) or green tea.
I'm right there with ya! :D There are so many health benefits from each type of tea, i don't care that it isn't raw :). Chia seeds are ancient as is hot brewed tea. I say somethings shouldn't be messed with lol. I have always loved tea, i don't even add sweetner <333
i've never tried rice milk, how does it compare? had store bought almond milk once, i don't understand how people can drink that stuff, bleh. I used to love regular milk in tea, but that interest faded years ago. i should try it with homemade almond milk, if you have does it work well?

rice milk is cooked and it basicaly has no structure to it... it's very watery and i think it taste blah. even the flavoured ones i don't like.
there's many different recipes to almond milk. i've only tried my own i made at home and i love it.
very simple... just almonds and dates.
most recipes i've seen have like 5 or more ingediants.

You can make your own rice milk as well. Some people soak the rice for a few hours or overnight then make the milk using a high speed blender. Since I sometimes make things spontaneously instead of planning ahead, I put the dry rice in the high speed blender, pulverize it, then add water and spices (i.e. vanilla, nutmeg or whatever comes to mind) and blend again.

Yes, I still drink my green and herbal teas. For me the benefits outweigh the non-rawness.;)

I still drink herbal tea and kumbocha. If I want herbal tea latte, I add my own raw honey and raw almond or sunflower seed milk. I wait for the tea to cool down to hopefully conserve some of the enzymes in the raw stuff I have added.
When its cold I drink more herbal tea and heated water by itself.

I find that drinking a cup of herbal tea helps with my hot food cravings. Besides I love tea and couldn't imagine giving it up! My favorite right now is Redbush Chai with a little raw pumpkin seed milk.
Hi, pixie_333, i hope all is well :), thanks for responding! i know rice milk is cooked, i was just curious, been raw for two years, never had it in the past. I never really liked milk in the first place so i don't make almond, or any other nut/seed milk very often, if i (very rarely) make a raw cereal with fresh fruit, dried fruit, some crushed nuts/seeds i make a banana or buckwheat milk - i love both.
Pistachio, now i'm just super curious!! lol, think i'll make some just for fun, don't have wild rice, but there must be some regular white rice laying around, this is just for experimentation's sake anyway :). funny, rice is another thing i never cared for. I was born in russia, moved to nyc when i was 4 months shy of 3 years old, and raised eating russian/european food and rice was never really a big part of my family's diet, now, buckwheat "kasha" was always around! just the roasted kind, which is delicious but raw (sprouted) is a million times better :). Gonna go throw some rice in the blender lol.
Mate is great!! especially in/from Israel!
I keep forgetting to get some redbush!! thanks for the reminder!!
Thank you for all your replies, glad to see i have some company in my non-rawness lol, i agree, the benefits out weight the title tremendously!! Hope everyone is having a greart weekend!!
tried the rice milk, perhaps i would think differently if it were made with wild rice, which i never have had, don't intend to purchase, but it was alright, not my cup of tea ;)
