View Full Version : Strange Craving - Advice

I'm only on the beginning of incorporating raw into my diet at the moment. I went through two liters of green smoothie today, I carried it with me everywhere and just couldn't get enough. I let my friend try some and she said it "Tasted like summer" and after she said it I realised it did! It reminded me of lying in a forest surrounded by fresh plants and flowers and the smell of the grass after the rain. It may sound silly but it felt like I was drinking some kind of miracle potion, and I've had so much energy all day.

I'm not completely raw, and for most meals today (I have several small ones) I have really craved soya natural prebiotic yogurt with hazelnut crunch cereal mixed in with it as well as fresh strawberries and chopped banana. I don't like too much repetition but I really really wanted it and after eating it felt great. As well as this I have a terrible craving for anything vanilla (Like vanilla soya yogurt)

My question is, what might it be from the above combination of foods that I'm ACTUALLY craving, and can anyone suggest raw alternatives to begin to include in my day?

Thank you!

If the soya yogurt with vanilla is the worst thing you crave when starting up with raw, you're doing really well! Your day's food sounds great too.
Anyhow, here's a way around the soy yogurt issue - try blending up some semi-frozen bananas, and adding a bit of vanilla to that. Simple, cheap, easy, and RAW! Then you could add your raw toppings like sliced strawberries, crushed raw cashews, whatever, even a few cacao nibs. When one gets the urge for certain kinds of non-raw food, there's often something you can make that is raw, but has a flavor or texture you might be craving. This is why it is great to try new recipes and combos - there's bound to be something you like and that's a go-to, when one is tempted. Raw banana ice-cream has saved many people from Ben and Jerry's binges, and dehydrator crackers, chips and cookies have helped people stay away from regular crunchy junk snacks too. Best of luck in your journey, and it sounds like those green smoothies are resonating with you!

Thanks for the advice, I'll try that! Sometimes I think it might just be the texture I crave, so I'll definitely try the frozen banana. :)
