Okay,

The other day our neighborhood had one of those "throw your unused items on the side of the road and the city will pick it up" days. This can be an incredible day to be a scavanger, which is exactly what my friend did....

And, she picked up an old looking champion juicer. I am a bit nervous to try it out, because there is a piece, that looks as if it should go underneath the spout of the juicer, but, it doesn't fit. So, the spout has this exposed part udnerneath, but I don't know what to do about it. Does it need something there? I ask this because I am willing to try it without the thingee, but I don't want to cut my fingers off. Also, isn't there some special gadget that needs to go w/it?

I couldn't find ANYWHERE to put that piece.

Any words to the desirous of wisdom would be appreciated!

sounds like that's where the screen thingy goes. Visit their website (can't remember the exact url, but try googling champion juicers) and you can order individual parts like the screens, the blank screen, the screen holder, etc.

Thing is, they're gonna ask for the serial number or model number...one of those...so check to see if that's on the juicer or not before attempting to order the part. Can you take a pic of the juicer and the part that won't fit and post it so we can see it?

If it IS the actual screen holder thingy, it kinda slides on. I'm gonna look up the website and post a few pics to see if what you have is what you need already.

Also, would your friend object to actually going to the home of the person who set it out and asking about the juicer? I mean, when we had bulk pick-up days and people were grabbing things from our curb, they'd ask if they had questions about whether something still worked or not, etc. There's no shame in it...if someone can use it, that's always better!

Thank you for googling that for me Ms Revvell : )

I think that the floating piece is a "blank"
I am missing the screen holder.

It doesn't answer my question as to whether I can use it as is?

And, the blank didn't seem to fit anywhere. Anyone know about this? I haven't used it.

I will look again at the website yet it would be wonderful to talk to a knowledgeable user.

Thanks!

Rev beat me to it! ;) But still, look at the parts and see if they match what you have already.

Yes, you need the screen holder to use the blank screen or any other screen. That's what goes on the bottom of that spout. They're not expensive at all and you don't have to pay shipping as it's in the cost of the parts!

I bought a used champion from a member here a while back and I had to order a blank screen and I got a holder too. Just need that serial (I think) number which I got off of the juicer itself on the back.

Great idea, Rawkin!

I don't know if she would object or not. Hopefully, it wasn't on the curb of one of our "scarier" houses. I live in an up and coming neighborhood, and we definitely have some down and outers. Risky in some parts, wonderful in others.

I really really want banana ice cream. Which is the ONLY reason I asked to borrow it.

I froze my bananas, and now I just have to figure out how to get them creamy w/out breaking something.

I don't have a digital camera that is functioning, or I would try the point and shoot thing.

thanks so much ya'll for jumping in. I really appreciate it!

We're all posting at the same time, it seems.

When I go home tonight, I will take a closer look at it. At least see if I have the serial number. And then, maybe, my friend will want to help w/the missing parts.

Oh, here's the big thing. If it doesn't work, what would be the point of finding missing parts? Is there a way to find out, do you think, without it being kind of scarey?

do you have a food processor? I always make my banana ice cream in the processor. I've only done it in the champion once. To me, it's quicker and easier in the processor.

It doesn't make it blow up or anything? when I was working on the fudge last night, it started to smell a bit hot. And that naturally made me very nervous.

I asked her if she thought it would ruin it, and she didn't think so, although had not stuck anything frozen in there before.....

Do you stick it in the main body? I guess you would have to! It's a hamilton beach, a simple one. a place to slice and shread, and then in the main body, one blade. No pulsing, no different speeds, just process, no process....

You can plug it in and turn it on. Does it have the blade that goes inside the spount (actually called the "body")? Just kinda look it over and see what all parts it has that are on the site.

But plug it in and turn 'er on and see if she works. I would try finding out from the previous owner if it is in working order/why they tossed it. Also, with the serial number you MIGHT be able to send it in for repairs. You don't have the actual warranty on it, but at least check into the cost of getting it serviced by the company and if it's worth it, then that's another option.

It shouldn't. I think that when making stuff like fudge balls or the torte, you have to run it for a few minutes, turn it off and let it rest a few minutes, then start it up again because they can and will burn out on ya!

But with the frozen bananas, that isn't hard on the machine/motor like the nut/date or nut butter/date combos can be. Yes, just put the bananas in the main container using your "s" blade (or the main blade) and process until it gets creamy and the consistency of soft-serve ice cream. I usually put my bananas in and my vanilla and a little sea salt (just a pinch) and any nuts or fruit I'm adding I add and pulse it in after I've blended the bananas a bit.

But since you don't have a pulse, just process for a few seconds and turn off (if you're using fruit or nuts to make it chunky, that is)

Okay,

You, Ms Cherie, are definitely on my favorites list. Thanks so much!!!!

I will talk to Linnae tonight or tomorrow about Mr. Champion, and we'll see what happens from there.

One thing is, the spout seems to spin around vs locking in place. Could be because it is missing the screen holder to hold it in place?

Sounds like it may be missing a little piece...you MIGHT need to order the hub and body together (which it seems it's sold that way anyway) if a piece is broken off and won't allow it to lock into place.

Also, you may want to check into ordering the manual for the champion...I had to get one as well and it really helps to show you how to operate the machine and also has recipes and instruction on making nut butter, etc. with the juicer.
