View Full Version : Think twice B4 trying this Green Smoothie

Yesterday I got an email from a website some of you may know with a link to a smoothie recipe that sounded interesting. I figured since I like a pudding made with avocado, banana, cacao, and dates that this smoothie would be good. So wrong. I've made some nasty smoothies before, but this was the worst yet. It was so awful I almost dumped it out, but it was my last half an avocado and last banana and I refused to waste them. If you got that email link, think twice before you try his smoothie.
Here is what I did:
1/2 avocado
1 banana
3 T. hemp seeds
2 medjol dates
1 T. cacao
1 T. Vitamineral Green
2 cups water
It was so BAD! I salvaged it spinach and mint leaves and stevia. It seemed okay, so I drank it. Now I feel sick, my stomach aches and my throat is burning like I have indigestion. Next time my taste buds try to warn me about not eating something, I'm listening!

Ya, that doesn't sound like a very good smoothie to me! I once took the advice of a guru who said to peel two oranges and put them in the blender together and blend it up. Said it would turn out creamy. NOT! it was pulpy and disgusting!
what a waste

Well, I survived, but my stomach is still heavy. Someone more active might appreciate the nutritional qualities in it. :)

I like Victoria Boutentko's way of creating smoothies ~ fruit and greens. That's it! She's the creator yet, we all think we know better so add all KINDS of other stuff. Fruit and greens, simple, nourishing.

Yeah, I've never done anything but fruits and greens either. I've yet to find a combo I don't like except that I find spinach bitter/love kale.

I'm over my superfood phase. Just give me an orange, greens, and a frozen banana or strawberries. I'll have my avocado plain or in a salad, and my cacao in a dessert or almond milk. :D

I heard your interview with her from October(?). I just picked up her book "Green for Life", have not started it yet, maybe today. Looking forward to seeing her new book.

I'm with ya on this. I don't put "Superfoods" in my smoothies anymore. I like them just simple now. They taste so mcuh better and refreshing. :) I also prefer avocado on my salad or in guacamole and cacao in my deserts or their own banana/almond milk smoothie.

I don't know the smoothie sounds that sounds pretty good to me. Yesterday I had a similar one. It had leftover chocolate pudding (made with avocado, dates & cacao) then I added some banana and papaya. I thought it was delish! Oh well!

That sounds nice with the papaya. Must have been the hemp and green powder combined with everything else that put it over the edge for me.

Yeah, me too. We're having her on LTR (http://LetsTalkRaw.com) on Monday. She'll just be coming back from Australia with Valya. I love how the family is so united; how Victoria keeps doing the research using her own family as "guinea pigs".. What's not to like?
I think I've got two interviews with her on Rawkin' Radio (http://rawkinradio.com)... yeah. The last one is from the Raw Spirit Festival if I remember correctly.

After dinking around with smoothies for awhile, I figured these things out-
I hate avocados in smoothies, yech.
A GS for me = at least half fruit, mostly pineapple. no berries, just citrus and mild greens.
a superfood smoothie is different. I love mine and I am happy to share the basic-
I make a big one and drink it every few days. My dd and DH love it too.
bananas
ice, water or young coco water
berries- blues and straws atm
raw cacoa and /or cacoa bliss
raw honey or agave
vanilla
crystal mana
vitamineral green
hemp seeds or powder
maca
spinach
adjust choc and sweetener to taste. my family likes a lot of both=)
the hemp is filling and I get a huge charge from this smoothie. great for days I have a lot to do.

debilana, Almost everybody in the family likes it! That look like a good drink for a supercharged day. I've done some like that but without the cacao, vanilla, and Crystal Mana.....
What is Crystal Mana? I tried Googling it but all that I saw was a potion in the game World of Warcraft.

Thanks! Now I remember seeing it on the shelf! I have some Klamath Lake Blue-Green Algae in tablet form. Dumping this out of the cap into a drink would probably be easier to absorb.

i have had alot of bad GS experiences lately. i think i just need some more flavorful fruit besides bananas.

opps! I linked the wrong one- same stuff, but I bought it in the loose form. Its so pretty- like green snowflakes!
I read the new Kate Wood book about superfoods and she really recommened the Crystal Mana. So I thought I would give it a whirl=)
