Hello. I'm proud to say that as of today me and my mom are Raw Vegan. We've been reading a lot and doing research before actually doing it and we decided to try it.
I still have a few questions that I hope to get answered here. One of them is about Frozen and canned fruits and veggies. Are they raw? I just opened a can of pineapple and it doens't look very raw and let alone fresh to me. It looks like another processed food.
Should I eat just fresh foods or canned and frozen are ok?
Thanks for your help!

From what I've read, frozen veggies are 'flash cooked' before freezing. I'm unsure about canning but I know the manual method for canning requires lots of heat and I'm sure the manufacturing process requires high heat as well.
The only exception I believe is frozen fruits generally aren't cooked.

Canned foods are defintely not raw.
Frozen fruit is sometimes raw, check to make sure no sugar is added.
Frozen vegetables are usually blanched (dipped in hot water) before being frozen. When you have an abundance of fruits/veggies, you can freeze your own.
Best of luck on your journey! Make sure you read, read, read all that you can. Read Alissa's book. Read this website. Do searches on youtube for raw vegan and watch videos. If you have an ipod, download raw food podcasts and listen to them while working out, doing chores, driving etc.
It's awesome that you and your mom are doing this together so you can support each other :) . Best wishes!

thanks for the info!
I won't buy anymore canned foods. The pineapple didn't really look good.
Today wasn't easy as the first day, I hope it gets better from now on.

After you've eaten fresh fruit for a few months, and then have a bite of canned, you'll be amazed at how flavorless and bland and just blech the canned will taste.
Welcome aboard the raw train.
Sometimes fresh can be inconvenient. Freezing your own is just as beneficial. Buy whatever is on sale, chop 'em and freeze! This includes veggies & fruits. :D
My mom actually prefers her icy smoothies. It's the only way I can get her to eat anything raw.
Oranges were 15/$1 in my area. I put aside the amount I knew I'd have for the week and freezed the rest. I was in OJ heaven I tell ya.
So if you can't do fresh for any reason, freezing your own is always an option. Cost effective since it's packed with nutrition & fresh flavors compared to what you'd find canned or flashed frozen. Plus, you'd be poisoning your body with the canned. Dang. Dead food.
