I was all ready to go raw again.. New job, new motivation (New Year!!)...
Job started two weeks ago. First day, I knew there was going to be a problem. Had a large Green Smoothie for Breakfast, then found out I would not be allowed a break until 5pm!! (I clock in at 10 am).. Luckily I had some
brazil nuts and gogi berries in my pocket, however, we are also not allowed to drink water or anything at the desk and with no break, this means no liquids for up to 6 hours!!
At 5pm, I was so hungry and thirsty I blew it day one! I had a huge salad and a cooked vegetarian egg roll (actually two of them!). Then , there was no break until I clocked out at 10:30 pm. I did manage to eat more nuts and berries (on the sly), but by 9:oo pm, I was starving again, and had to eat a graham cracker... I got home and ate strawberries and banannas till I was stuffed but knowing this is not a healthy pattern...
I approached the "boss" last week and begged to go to lunch at 3:oo pm. I was curtly told no, and I would not be getting my break until 5PM.... I am really trying here, but going Raw and this schedule are not compatible..
Anybody see any hope in this? Any suggestions?
Thanks !!!

Are there no labour laws where ever you are.
Where are you.

Beckyb, that might not even be legal for one.eeeeeek. Also many employers allow for health challenges and disabilities,,,they are required to do so.
I would set my intention in talking with him(go to him as if he already has said yes to you and smile),that he will be responsive and compliant, be as kind and nice as possible and let him know that you know he expects an honest days work from his employees and that you plan to be that for him.You understand his position and how some may have taken this to an extreme in the past. That you also have body challenges (or whatever sickness or issue you might name) and have a special eating plan that requires you to drink often and to keep yourself producing work and feeling well, can there please be an exception so you can get your liquid nutrition.
For me,if I could not take care of myself while at my work,I find new work.
Do what you feel is best and good for you.Keep us posted sweet..lvBette

Oh...forgot.For me,it would be the job that has to go not my eating raw.Raw is so important for my health.
Also I had a period of time where I found a few "reasons" to not be raw too.But I simply looked at my results thus far and how I feel,I am recommitted. It might call for that.Recomittment over and over and over again.

I agree with Sport! I have never heard of such a thing. I can't imagine being raw OR cooked with such a schedule. HOWEVER if that IS the only schedule you can work with it shouldn't make a difference if you are eating raw or cooked either way it stinks. No liquids would be my hardest thing ... are you allowed to go to the bathroom? If you can still make potty breaks I would make sure I drink most of my water before work, then have a very filling something to eat right before going to work (I would still probably sneak some nuts/seeds in my pocket). Then eat something else filling on your break, like a big salad with pate and avocado. Then have a light snack when you get home like some juicy fruit so you're not eating heavy before bed. That's just what I would do AND I would be looking for a new job.
Blessings,
Heather

You can not live your life like that for very long. It would be OK if it was just a short term thing but not long term. There has to be a more permanent answer and it has to be supplied by the employer doing the right thing.
Surely they could be convinced that productivity would be better from well fed employees. Hungry people can not concentrate on work.

Where in the hell are you working? It sounds like a torture chamber. No offense. OMG, no water allowed on your desk? I worked in HR for 20 years, what they're doing is ILLEGAL. You must be allowed 15 minute breaks every 4 hours minimum PLUS a 30 minute (minumum) lunch break. Research it! Or else this is just a California State Law. I'm a bit rusty on federal employment law, but it still sounds "off" to me. And even they are following the law, where is the compassion? Happy Employees = Happy Company. Good Lord.

I am guessing they are having you start at 10 am so they don't have to give you a full lunch (if you work 8 hours you are entitled at least a 1/2 hour lunch), but I believe you do have the right to a couple of 15 minute breaks. Look up the state and federal laws. Then I would start looking for another job.

OMG this is complete torture and I don't think anybody should have to go through this. Like others said, try and workout something with your boss, there has to be a solution they can come up with. You cannot go day in and day out like this. You are putting your body through stress.
Good luck on whatever you decide to do.

OMG. ILLEGAL.
just b/c the economy is bad right now and SO many are un-employed does NOT mean we are going to accept conditions like the factories of the 1900's!! (or whatever). what if you are "surfing the crimson wave" as they say??/ hello?????
and again: ILLEGAL.
goodluck. you would be miserable or SICK if you followed these rules!! anyone would!!

I feel so bad for you! You do not deserve to work in that type of environment.
The last time I ever went to Wal-Mart (a few years ago), I was in line and my checker was very pregnant and she was telling the girl ahead of me that she really had to go to the bathroom and had asked her floor supervisor for a break to do so for over 2 hours and had been repeatedly told no, then she said "I'm only telling you this because I'm walking away from my register now, sorry everyone in line" and she took off for the bathroom. I just felt so bad for her...I mean if I had to work in a job where I could not pee, I'd lose my mind.
Anyhow, I don't know the type of work you are doing but nowdays I know people need to work, but your situation is crazy. You should at least get 15 minute breaks in which you could eat something snacky or pre-prepared and get a drink of water.

contact the dept of labor. They will help with this. My fiance recently called them because he works in a restaurant and they were asking him to work non-serving shifts but only paying him waiter wages. They were underpaying him $6/hour as a result. The file was opened immediately. Everywhere I have worked you have been entitled by law to a paid 15min break every 3 hours.

Um, yes, I was suggesting it in a tongue-in-cheek way...not as a permanent solution. ;)

I don't. Not only is it unlawful as so many as said, but it strongly suggests that your new employer is running a defacto sweatshop in which the employees are at his/her beckoning and mercy. Even if the law wasn't a factor, what about health issues, i.e. diabetics, people on diuretics (water pills) or other medications, etc. What about fatigue and productivity?
People all over are describing their superiors taking subtle and overt advantage of the economic situation, but your situation is competing very hard to head the list of abusive employment situations.
Any suggestions?
Have you noticed if the supervisor/boss is treating all staff equally, especially those in a similar capacity to you? Are you being singled out for this treatment? If so document the specifics so that they can be referenced later should you choose to pursue the matter.
Keep in mind, if this is the type of treatment you are receiving as a new employee at the facility, there is no reason to believe that there wouldn't be worse to come if you choose to remain. Some people may feel that they have to put up with nonsense because of not having specialized training or job skills, but keep in mind, the same way you found that job, another one with more humane conditions can also be found. The question is: do you believe that you deserve it? And if so, is the worth the sacrifice and temporary inconvenience that may be involved leaving this one while you look for another?

Bravo Pistachios,we get and draw to ourselves what we think we deserve. We sometimes stay in situations that we knew for a long time were not our place to be.Pulling oneself out of that state and seeking the best for yourself is what you will find.
It is never ok to allow ourselves to be treated that way.We can try to remedy it with the person by how we are with them.If not, wish them a silent blessing and move on.For me,to "fight for rights" and "take him to court" is a hassle I rather skip. Its that employers walk through this life and he will do it until he grows up in love(or not).We can leave him to do just that and move away peacefully to a place that better suits us.
I always say "we have to do 250 jobs before we find the one we really want"...hahahaha. fun. I will make a blog about my jobs(one I had to walk on stilts,no kidding.I worked one day..hahahha).Life is so funny.
