I searched the internet for the healing properties of jicama and found only 1 source that said anything at all. It claimed that jicama is good for weight loss. Anyone have another source to back it up? Anyone know of any other healing properties of The Magnificent Jicama?

It's Very Low in Calories, full of water and fiber. I know of No Healing properties, except I've only eaten it RAW.

Sometimes the only benefit may be that it tastes good and you enjoy it. Works for me. :)

When I went home to Mexico in winter break I ate mostly just jicama with lime juice and cayenne pepper and I started asking myself what real nutritional value could that have. Specially because jicama is white and I always got the idea that colorless fruits where less nutritious. Anyway, I found this: http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/vegetables-and-vegetable-products/2727/2
So it seems like it is mostly vitamin C and fiber.

I've never had it, but it does sound good. I have searched for it at the local market and specialty stores, is it something to be ordered online??? I can't seem to find it anywhere in my area....;)

Okay, I know I'm quoting myself here, but I think we sometimes can over-analyze everything we put into our mouths. Does it have enough vitamins? Is it the most efficient thing I can eat in that it gives me the most protein for the time I spend chewing? Rather than chives, shouldn't I be eating parsley because it has more iron?
Again, sometimes just enjoy the food. Savour the taste. Get lost in the flavors.
Works for me. :)

Have you asked? Whole Foods generally carries it and I've rarely not seen it in a grocery store although some only carry a couple. It'd be near other root vegetables. If you have any latin american/mexican markets in your area, they will usually have it as well.

I don't know what it's good for, but I know it's delicious!!!
Today I'm having a jicama/coconut salad: just coconut meat sliced like noodles, sliced jicama, lime, cilantro, and Celtic sea salt. So simple and delicious!
My favorite Mexican restaurant has jicama so I ask for a plate of it and then I dip it in salsa & guacamole instead of having chips. Yum, I want some now :)

I actually bought one last night, before I found this discussion, because I was wanting a good stir fry. I put it in the food processor to get the consistency of rice, mix in a little nama shoyu and marinate for a bit, add pea pods, green onions, red peppers, celery.
Can hardly wait for supper tonight!

My wife is currently about 13.2 weeks pregnant, And her morning sickness is off the chart, For the first few weeks it scared the daylights out of me because she could not hold anything down at all. After several trips to the doctor and them prescribing her anti nausea medications like Zofran© and Phenergan©. As the medication seemed to help her other than the fact that her insurance would not cover the disprovable type she could hardly even keep them down.
We were at the grocery store doing our monthly shopping when she walked passed the Jicama and wanted it, Being her pregnant self and me being the one that gives her anything and everything she wants we grabbed it.
Once she ate it, It took her Nausea away completely and helped her feel much better. Since then she has eaten it when she feels sick and it helps. Weird? I dunno.. . I'm just happy that it works and it's not a chemical.
Thanks for reading.

If you would like to try it this, She just eat's it raw. Not a whole lot just a few over sized french fry size pieces. And over about ten min she feels better.

That's really interesting! I'll have to test this out. My mom gets sick a lot, so I'll use her :p
I did buy one a few weeks ago from the farmer's market. It's not something I'd get regularly, but it's nice every now and then.
I personally think it goes much better with cinnamon and nutmeg and some maple syrup or agave. It's a lot like a Korean pear, I think
