So I have an Excalibur Dehydrator, which I love. I used to use it all the time to dry fruit that was about to go bad, make crackers, etc. However, when I went to use it recently, I noticed that ALL MY FOOD was coming out with cat hairs in it. Not even a few here and there, which probably happens with all food. But quite a few of them! To the point where you just have to throw whatever you made away because they are EVERYWHERE. I've tried cleaning it multiple times, but it's like I just can't get them off.

Right now, the screens and everything are soaking in the tub in super hot water, so I'm hoping that helps to eliminate any possible sticky stuff that might be keeping them there.

But for those of you with dehydrators and pets, have you had this problem? What did you do? Is there a way to reduce it? Or a better way to clean them out?

I generally dust weekly and sweep several times a week, so there shouldn't be that much cat hair in the air. I have two air filters which I have not been running recently, but plan to -- maybe that will help?

Have been thinking about this.I have a cat. I know the fan in the back draws air in ,heats it then it goes across the food. I run mine in a room(kitchen) with the air purifier running always. If I vacuum,I shut it off, cover it and then resume after much time has passed.
Really anything in your air in the room with the dehy can get in the food in there.
Might be a way to put a mesh across the back so hair wont go in.I dont know.

I have 5 cats and the excalibur but I dont have a hair problem, atleast not in my dehydrator. I do vacuum my dehydrator out occasionally. It removes crumbs easily then I wipe it down. Do your pets jump onto your dehydrator?? Where do you keep it?? Mine is sitting on a kitchen cart, not close to the ground and I keep things on top of it so the cats cant jump up there.

I have 3 short haired dogs and do not have this problem. Maybe their hair doesn't float as much. I have a cheap circular dehydrator, but it works very well for me.
