Hi! I am starting tomorrow RAW living and very excited. I didn't buy nuts and wanted to know because I have so many that I have from the supermarket...Can I use them if they are roasted and salted from a can? Can I soak them and dehydrate them? Or I just can't use them at all?

Also, this might be a stupid question but and I saw a few threads with it but as for protein, I do get this from my fruits and vegetables so there is no need to eat nuts every day right?

Sorry, I know it might sound dumb, I just want to make sure I am doing this right.

Thank you so much everyone!

It is roasted or salted or from a can then it is not good to use. Donate it to charity.
You do not need nuts every day. Too many nuts means too much fat and that is not the best.
Seeds are better than nuts but some nuts are ok.

You may find in the beginning that having nuts will help you to stay raw so have whatever you need to satisfy that purpose. I was just making the point that you do not need them for protein.

OH NO, that's good, b/c I didn't get any, it wasn't in my budget this week. I got more fruits and vegetables for smoothies, fresh juice, salads, ect....So, I was just wondering if I can get my proteins there, rather than getting nuts?

I don't normally eat nuts....so that's why I was wondering if just eating veggies and fruits were ok for protein.....

Occasional nuts are good for other things. Brazil nuts are good for selenium and we do not get much of this elsewhere.
You will get plenty of protein elsewhere. It is virtually impossible to get too little protein as long as you are getting enough calories.

This question come a million times to raw fooders. Where do you get your protein??? Well where do cows get theirs? Greens greens greens and protein will be not a concern. I also like hemp seed and theres all kinds of other things for added protein if you feel you need it.

That's what I thought. I was just making sure. I start today...Wish me luck! I am going to have a smoothie for breakfast....I dehydrated bananas and apples for snack if I get hungry in between. I am very excited!

Thanks for all of your help ! I am sure I will eventually have more questions! LOL

“One farmer says to me, ''You cannot live on vegetable food solely, for it furnishes nothing to make bones with;'' and so he religiously devotes a part of his day to supplying his system with the raw material of bones; walking all the while he talks behind his oxen, which, with vegetable-made bones, jerk him and his lumbering plow along in spite of every obstacle”. - Henry David Thoreau

Good luck racingdiva! Just as previously stated, if you eat your greens, you will get your protein. Where in Washington are you? I am in Olympia:)

Don't worry about asking questions. The only dumb question is the one you don't ask. I know there are many here who have probably forgot more about raw food than I will ever know. I think that is one of the great things about this site, The amount of knowlege is unbelievable, and many of the ones here who live and have lived this lifestyle are more than happy to help "us" newbies out.
