This is week four of being raw and I'm telling you I can't begin to say how I'm loving the way I feel. Still detoxing but all in all I'm doing so much better than week one and I've released 10 pounds so far. Anyway my question is that I bought some Jarrows coconut oil yesterday. When I opened it up it was in a solid form. Can you use this in place of recipes that I assume would take it in liquid form. Also can you use this on your face as well.

rawpromises....yes the solid has solidified because its cold.We usually warm it in the dehy to get it liquid to use then it mixes better.Oh I so love coconut oil.It is super for skin.I have it in the side of my tub and moisterize immediately with it.
Heres a clip on coconut oil :Pure virgin coconut oil is the best natural ingredient for skin lotion available. It prevents destructive free-radical formation and provides protection against them. It can help to keep the skin from developing liver spots, and other blemishes caused by aging and over exposure to sunlight. It helps to keep connective tissues strong and supple so that the skin doesn't sag and wrinkle. In some cases it might even restore damaged or diseased skin. The oil is absorbed into the skin and into the cell structure of the connective tissues, limiting the damage excessive sun exposure can cause.

Coconut oil will will aid in healing and repairing. It can help bring back a youthful appearance. The coconut oil will aid in removing the outer layer of dead skin cells, making the skin smoother. The skin will become more evenly textured with a healthy "shine". While doing this the coconut oil will penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin and strengthen the underlying tissues.

Coconut oil on your hair and scalp

What coconut oil can do for your skin it can do for your hair. It is wonderful to use as a hair conditioner. Beauticians who are familiar with coconut swear by it. It softens the hair and conditions the scalp. Using the coconut oil as a pre-wash conditioner can rid a person of dandruff better than a medicated shampoo.

So coconut oil away and see all it can dooooooo...hooray. Oh online they sell gallon tubs and 5 gallon...I want MORE haha. Maybe fill the swimming pool with it? lol

Is there a difference between say the coconut I bought at the store the other day and a young coconut. I would say my coconuts are small (ha ha) but what makes it a young coconut.

Any yes I will go to the beach with you :)

Coconut oil begins to melt at 76 degrees and so just fill the bottom of the sink with a couple inches of lukewarm water and it will begin to melt instantly. Also, just holding a scoop of it in your hands will instantly melt it.

I've had a lot of success with coconut oil on my face. I've been using it for over a year now. Just a little goes a long way, and while it feels very heavy and oily at first, just bear with it; in a few minutes it will soak into the skin and leave it nice and dewy. :)

I have been raw for a good while now and have used the coconut oil the whole time, the other day I had to visit the doctor about some womens stuff and she asked about my diet etc, coconut oil was mentioned and she talked about it as if it was from the devil, she said its high in the wrong sort of fats, and really bad for me, she gave some sheets of info with the "wrong fats" on it and sure enough it was there, now I cant believe she is right as Ive used it for so long and its done nothing but good for me (well I cant see my insides but I feel good) I used to have loads of health problems ( I have lupus and am a celiac) but on a raw diet most of my symptoms disapear, obviously I still cant eat gluten, but every thing else has improved big time, can someone explain why she is saying this,

thanks ( I dont post hardly ever but I always read)

Sometimes I think even the doctors mean well, but are just so misinformed. All oils heated to a certain degree become toxic to body, as the molecular structures are changed.

Also, when doctors think of "oil," they aren't thinking of raw organic cold-pressed oils...just the processed goop that is put on the grocers' shelves.

I find it so sad that all these years and money are spent on a doctor's education and yet the very essence of our health is lost on him/her.

Coconut oil has a bad reputation in the conventional world only because they do not know.Forgive them and press on.
Coconut, young, are white and look like a yurt sort of.They have liquid inside as well as soft tender "meat". Type in "How to open a coconut" and youtube will show you. Get them at asian markets or online or whole foods.
Older coconuts are brown and hard shelled and harder "meat".
Young is superior to the older ones for instant bliss and vibrant health.I use and love both. One of my faves.

I haven't used coconut oil internally, but I do use it everyday on my hair, face and as a body moisturizer....especially on my expanding pregnant belly. :p LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! And my 2 yo DD has even discovered she can eat a little our of the jar while I put some on her hair too. She loves it!
Great stuff!

I agree that some doctors are mis informed when it comes to this kind of thing, so far ive kept using it and found it great for me, although in the back of my mind I was a bit worried that id have a stroke and drop dead, my cholesterol reading was really low, but when the doc says something you tend to take more notice, which is odd when you think about it because unless they have researched into a raw lifestyle how would they know !

She's probably referring to the processed coconut/palm oil thing, which is unhealthy. Cold pressed, virgin coconut oil is a completely different matter. It's made from medium-chain fatty acids, so your body processes it in the liver and it's used immediately for energy, not stored as fat. It's a saturated fat, however, it is a plant-based sat-fat and can in no way be compared to animal-based sat-fats! Coconut oil (in the form of cold-pressed, virgin) actually lowers the bad cholesterol in your blood and raises the good cholesterol.

I saw (in a quick skim through replies) that someone mentioned doctors mean well but don't have the facts. This is true....they don't even study nutrition in med school (They get an general overview). Just think, most of them still recommend milk! Even nutritionists can be poorly informed, if they don't take it upon themselves to keep up-to-date in nutritional information.

Coconut oil is wonderful! It tastes good, smells incredible (yummy!) and can do wonders for your hair and skin. If you do use it on your face, have a light hand with it until you determine if it is too rich for you or not. I know for me, too much and I break out. It's done wonders with my skin though! :D

How do you use it in on your hair? I've wondered about this. I'm up for anything that improves my hair. :)

How do you use it in on your hair? I've wondered about this. I'm up for anything that improves my hair. :)My hair is really long and the ends need to be cared for. After I blow-dry it, I then take a little oil, rub it between my hands, then run my fingers through the ends lightly distributing the oil. I finish by pulling it all through my hands (the ends only) in a bunch. You have to watch you don't put too much on though....trust me on that one! LOL!
