I know I saw a thread on freezing bananas (after peeling and slicing) because they go bad so quickly. Can fresh fruits (strawberries, pineapple, etc) also be stored in the freezer for use later in the week? Surely that would retain more nutrients and enzymes than purchasing "frozen fruit" from the grocery store...??? And, would you put the frozen fruit directly in the blender in the blender, or thaw it overnight in the fridge? I tried this once with bananas and they were brown mush by the morning. I've also attempted blending the frozen bananas... they stuck together in the blender and never mixed properly.

I'd prefer to not make 3 trips a week to the grocery store, but will if I have to. Also, I made a fruit smoothie for my parents (in their late 60's) last weekend. They'd never had one before (they're meat and potatoes, rural farmer types). I got a call this morning from my mom who told me they liked the smoothie so much that they've made one for breakfast every morning this past week !!! Yeah ! However, they have to drive 45 minutes to the nearest grocery store. Mom asked about using frozen fruit. Thus, I'm wondering if one can just buy fresh fruit, freeze it, and use it later in the week.

I always freeze fruits.Bananas unpeeled and lay on a tray, freeze then bag. They wont be mush.Freezing loses some nutrients but I do not worry about it. I put small pieces so my blender can handle the frozen. It also makes the smoothie very cold and I drink it room temperature.
Yes I save commutes to the store by freezing what I can.
Hooray for your parents and YOU for introducing them.
I have currently 8 people who are not raw now drinking smoothies daily of often, just by giving them a taste.:D

i freeze fruit all the time -- rather than letting it go bad.

for bananas, i actually freeze them in the peel (in ziploc bags). when ready to use, just immerse in hot/warm water for several minutes. the banana thaws a bit and the peel comes right off.

if blending from frozen (or even thawed), add water or other liquid to assist the blending process.

other fruits, depending on the type, i may peel and dice before freezing (i.e peaches, kiwi, melon and the like).

i've used store-bought frozen fruit too in a pinch, but that's not actually raw.

enjoy!

I Freeze most Fruit and Vegetables. Bananas will turn brown but are fine. I pack all I can in a Zip Lock and Freeze. When I am ready to use I just cut some off and add to the Vita-Mix. I don't try to part each Banana. I never thaw anything before I use with exception of Avacodo.

Sliced frozen bananas will go bad quickly. Peel and pop them in a freezer bag. They will stay fresh for about a week.

When fruit is on sale I buy extra and freeze some. There is nothing wrong with buying a bag of frozen fruit either, as long as there is no sugar added.

I like to put one or two fresh fruits and one frozen fruit in my green smoothie. I prefer that rather than adding ice.
