My kids LOVE kale chips. We go through at least 3-5 heads of a kale per week. I just marinate the kale in evoo and sea salt and dehydrate.

I'm wondering if I can make "chips" out of any other dark leafy greens? Anyone ever make collard chips or chard chips or any other type of green leafy chip???

I'd like to know the answer to that, too. I've made chips using all kinds of kale but no other greens. There is one other veggie that makes a great chip. EGGPLANT. When I made eggplant bacon (on recipe forum) I left the peel on, sliced it in rounds as thin as possible, marinated, and dried it until crispy. It was more like a chip than bacon. The thinnest peices were the best.

I haven't tried any other Green Chip but have you thought about making Green Smoothie Leather?

I will definitely have to try that. I love eggplant, but grew up eating it breaded and fried and topped with...well, un-raw stuff. :D That sounds like a yummy recipe.

Veg4Life,

I know you asked about other green leafy veggies for chips, and I don't have anything to offer as far as that goes, but in case you are interested if you go to:

http://www.aimeeslivinmagic.com/Products_%26_Prices.html

and you scroll down toward the end, she makes two different zucchini chips, a pure salt and vinegar, and a cajun zucchini. If I were to get into that, of course I would try to make my own because of the satisfaction in doing so, and it being more cost effective for me.

Many blessings to you!

Marcia

That recipe looks great. I did try zucchini chips once when I first went raw and it just tasted like, well, shriveled zucchini-not so good. I will have to marinate better this time.

I'm marinating in evoo and salt right now - How long do you usually marinate for?

Sure. Here it is. http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=5762&highlight=eggplant+bacon I posted the exact combo of ingredients I used on the last page.

P.S. I'm not sure if I was correct in calling it a forum...? If you click on the words "Raw Food Talk" near the little folder in the first box at the top of the page it brings up what I call the forum page. Go down to where it says "The Food". Recipes are in that section. Or you can do a banana search, (top of the page). I hope that helps. Welcome to RFT!

sunchokes! I dip slice them thinly and dip them in apple cider vinegar and then dehydrate. They remind me of salt & vinegar potato chips!!!

Do the kale chips taste bitter at all? I'm starting to try kale in my green smoothies, but I can totally taste it. So, what do they taste like?

Thanks!

Nope - ALL the bitterness is gone when you dehydrate the kale.
I cannot eat raw, fresh kale. The juices make me ill - but I love kale chips :D

I only marinate them for a few minutes...otherwise we just eat them before they get to the dehydrator!

mmmmmmm It was for thanksgiving.

so pretty much i just cut them in rounds greased em up with some S+P and dehydrated until it was time to eat. imo they could have gone longer and been really crispy

It was from the beet ravioli recipe on goneraw.com

i can't remember it totally but there was also a grapeseed oil and chive drizzle that was just sooo delish that went with the original recipe.

but the beets were my favoriet part

FYI i also did eggplant yesterday:

sliced an eggplant very thin
soaked in salted water over night
rubbed with evoo and italian herbs
dehydrate

=

chips!!!!

Banana is the key to not tasting Kale... at least one, maybe a couple or more when you're starting out. That and starting slow and getting used to it. I'd NEVER had a 'green' in my life and like kale in smoothies now. Also you can remove the stem if you want - it is the most bitter/flavorful.

Great Ideas on chips, will have to try some of the recipes. Just thought Id add I made some collard chips once mixed with rawcheese.they were not bad at all,not my fav, hard to beat a kale chip. Also made sweet potato chips ,soaked in water, then brushed them with evoo an seasonings.I diddnt let the Dh long enough, but there were good as well
