I have PCOS - I was diagnosed with it about 2 years ago. I had put on about 60lbs b/c of it. Thankfully & very slowly I have lost about 40#s of it. I was wondering if anyone has PCOS & if raw has helped them balance out their hormones. If it has---has raw helped you lose weight & have regular cycles? My cycles are still irregular & losing weight is hard.

I have PCOS. I've dealt with it for about 10 years. I've been given everything in the pharmaceutical dept. with more harm than help.
Raw has definitely helped. My periods are lighter and cramps are not as bad. Also, I recently read about extended water fasting for the relief of PCOS and am now in the 6th day of my fast. I'll let you know how it goes!!

I have a PCOS but I just started eating raw so I have no input on how it might help. Although I think going vegan did help me with PCOS. There are so many hormones in animal products that by not eating them, it doesn't mess with your hormones.

I've had PCOS for about 16 years and I have noticed a difference in the last 3 weeks that I've been doing raw. My skin is clear, firm and bright! I have much more energy, and my horrible digestive problems are mostly gone, I no longer have mood swings, and three days into my juice fast ( I did a 5 day juice fast before starting raw.) I got my period three weeks early even though I've been on the pill for a few years...My period was super heavy with lots of clots..It felt GOOD..very cleansing and now my pelvis feels really light and and energized! I absolutly belive that the raw life style with heal my PCOS..Disease can not live in a healthy body.

I am so grateful that someone brought this up. I have PCOS (diagnosed 12/07) and I did a vegan (Skinny B****) diet strictly for about 5 months and then I switched to regular vegan (including white pasta and sugar and other yummy things) I have been eating a low meat low dairy diet for about 4 months. I lost about 20lbs from switching to vegan. But my weight has stabilized and i really need to lose at least 25 lbs this year. I have been investigating the raw thing (haven't started yet) and I googled raw and PCOS and found the medical community thinks you MUST have animal protein to treat PCOS. My OBGYN thinks I should eat 1200 calories a day (I am a marathon runner) even when I am running. So I am looking for answers elsewhere.
I am starting 100% raw (going cold tofurkey) on Sunday and I will do a 30 diet. I anticipate it will last longer as the vegan diet started as a 30 day diet which then turned into a year.
I am currently taking Yaz to regulate my cycle and I will continue to take it until I feel great enough that I don't think I need it anymore.
I am optimistic about going raw since most PCOS symptoms go away with weight loss and most people lose weight going raw. I also watched the trailer for this documentary about raw reversing diabetes. http://www.rawfor30days.com/
I will continue to watch this thread and hopefully post some successes soon!!

Thanks so much for responding everyone! It's so nice to hear the benefits of going raw with PCOS. I was on metformin for like 2 years & now I really don't take it anymore...I hope that's okay. I'm really wanting to regulate my blood sugar by going raw & not taking any meds. I'm not gonna lie, I also hope to lose weight by eating raw....but as you all know PCOS & losing weight can be extremely difficult. If you have any advice on foods to eat that help with weight loss I'd be more than happy to hear. I do alot of leafy greens, fruits, avacodos & a few nuts I also work out about 5x a week for about an hour/ hour & a half

Right before I went raw I found out I had PCOS. Since going raw I now have no pain, Regular months, almost always on time and it is not heavy. Right before raw I was just starting to have debilitating pain as well as super heavy monthly's now it is a thing of the past.. I just wish I could get rid of the extra hair issue.. Raw can help PCOS'ers
