Hi all!
I have NOT been eating raw for about a week now, and I feel like hell. I just found out that I am in the early stages of pregnancy, and starting tomorrow I'm going back to raw. My mom bought me one of Carol Alt's books, and it helps, but I don't have a dehydrator and I don't see on in my immediate future. SO I need help coming up with a diet that is raw and safe for baby.
Help?
Thanks,
Jenee

Thank you so much! I'm scared out of my mind, to be honest, but I know that will eventually pass. The raw diet is the only way of eating/living that has ever truly made me feel at peace with myself and my body. I want only to pass on good things to the teeny almost-human inside me.
Thanks for the book suggestion, I actually am meeting a friend at the local book shop tomorrow, so I will look for it. :)

Ok, so I'm not the best one to be giving advice since I'ver seriously fallen off the wagon in a big way. BUT, I actually had an easier time eating raw before I bought a dehydrator. The recipes that I've tried havent turned out very good at all and I felt much better eating simple fruit, veg and nuts.
I wish you the best health in your pregnancy!

Congratualtion :D
Shazzies book Evis kitchen is the greatest on rasing raw kids, and yes Gabriel Cousens books are great, Consious eating thas a chapter on pregnansy too.
I think that you fell of the wagon and feeling so bad because you are pregnant. The first trimester is offen the worse. I would advise you to eat what you feel like. Dont force yourself to be raw or even vegan if you crave eggs for an example. I belive the baby knows what it needs, so listen to your body (ok this dosent count for junkfoods ;-).
Make shure to get a good selection of vitamine and minerals, maby even a good multi vitamin/mineral suppliment. B12 is really important, so is good fatty acids (flax seeds and oil, hemp seeds and oil, chia seeds, AFA, Marine phytoplankton a.s.o.). Trust me I know from experience. The baby will take what it needs but then mom is lacking, so make shure you get enought for both of you :D I was soooo deficient when I had my daughter and it took forever to build up the stock again. So better be on the safe side and start now :-)
Im a strong beliver in raw but when it comes to bringing a new human into the world, strong principals dont counts as strong as getting a healthy baby. If lets say 80% raw works better for you, then go ahead. Listen to your intuition, moms has the bedst one ;-)
Green smoothies, if you like them (tastes can change while you are pregnant), might be the bedst thing for both of you. Remember to rotate you greens.
Fresh fruits, vegies, greens, sprouts and soaked nuts and seeds is all you need. A dehydrator is great but not a nessesary. You can be raw without a dehydrator just fine. Many recepies on for example a burger dont have to be dehydratet, you can eat it as it is. Same is for cakes a.s.o. ok crackers dont work that way ;-) but you can also buy ready made crackers if you dont get a dehydrator. There is a lot of ready made raw food out there now.
Bedst of luck for both of you. This is a great place to get support and I think there are several here who had a high raw or semi raw preganansy who can give a few pointers.
Having a baby is the bedst this I have ever experienced, and a great tool to know yourself better and growing as a person. I loved being pregant, the birth was a fantastic experience and well watching this little person growing is one of natures greatest wonders. You have soooo much to look forvard too :D
Feel free to ask anything if you have any questions. We are here to support you :D

Add green smoothie and eat as much organic fruits you can. Eat and don't deprive yourself.
I was doing raw food before i got pregnant then silly me i try raw lima beans which are poisonous raw and i got sick. After this, i couldn't do raw anymore and i didn't know about green smoothie. But i would have fresh fruits every morning, take angstrom size mineral at about 5 months pregnancy because my iron was low apparently and eat only organic food. The only time i couldn't eat organic food, was while a business trip and i had to eat what i could find and i gain 10 pound that weeks. These 10lb were the only weight i gained after birth. I beleive my body stored that fat to protect my baby. I never had food craving, and this is a good sign that you are eating well.
When i discovered green smoothie, i was able to do the raw diet again two year after my fall.
Make sure to eat the good food for your child and be religious about what you put in your mouth (no commercial chocolate, chips, pops, liquors, white sugars, msg, aspartam, cane food,.....) Eat as fresh you can, and in time, you will manage to get back on raw food.

If you are planning to stay raw vegan during pregancy, I suggest a B-12 and Vit D supplement, as well as flax seed oil for those omega-3's.
