Hi Everyone,
I have been all over this board soaking it all in. I have been living %75 vegetarian for years and just by choice (and the fact that I'm too lazy to cook) about %75 raw for a few months. When I'm not eating raw or vegetarian I'm eating really really bad. Like Taco Bell. Ya, I know.... So 3 days ago I decided I was sick of feeling tired, heavy, achey, etc. etc. etc. I decided the only way to feel better was going %100 raw. I'd be lying if I didn't say that I am also hoping to shed 20 or 30 lbs too.

I'm on day 3, I feel fine, small headache yesterday but I know I didn't drink enough water. My problem is, I want to loose weight and I don't know if I'm eating too much. Or if 1 avocado a day is too fattening. I love them and I'd like to have one with dinner everyday, but will it put weight on me. Also should I stay away from nuts? I'm pretty clueless

Here's an example of what I ate today.

5 or 6 Macadamia nuts
1 bananna
I pkg blueberries
1/2 avocado
mixed greens with strawberries and homemade lemon/honey dressing.
1 orange
and for dinner I'll probably have fresh salsa over salad
and maybe some dried fruit or nuts

Like is this gonna make me fat? I love to look at all of the lovely before and after pictures and I hope some day I'll have a success story, but I'm just so clueless right now. I'm really not struggling at all, I love fresh living food. My biggest temptation is not putting a crystal light mix in my h2o, but I've resisted thus far. Anyways, thanks to anyone who reads this and is willng to share some diet advice.

I am very new to raw...I have been 100% for a month or so. I can tell you that I do not count calories or measure out my portions and I am still losing weight. My body is totally different than it was a month ago. LIsten to your body...if you are hungry, eat! You need fat for several critical reasons (i.e. brain function, heart health, hair/skin health) and it is actually really important that you eat fat in order to lose fat. When we starve our bodies, our metabolism slows down and you actually hold on to weight you are trying to get rid of! Eat every 3-4 hours. Eat a variety of fruits, nuts, vegetables, seeds, etc. I generally eat 6 mini meals a day plus a veggie juice with wheatgrass. I don't feel deprived and never hungry. Just be in tune with what your body is asking for. :)

Thanks so much for your response! I guess I'll just eat and make sure it's raw and see how I make out. Do you mind sharing an example of what your 6 mini meals might be?

Bambiroo,It has been my experience, you can eat whatever you need on raw and how much you want and still lose weight. The key is that how much you want wont be huge amounts because you will be full on less.
It is so fun,so wonderful tasting, unlimited in goodness and deliciouso-ness.!!!!
Have fun...wait til you see the results.

Fat is good!!!! Eat lots of it!! Good fats like avocados don't make you fat! I sometimes eat 2 avocados a day! (I take it easy on the nuts though....they make me feel a little sluggish....but everyone's different...some people probably eat a lot more nuts than me and feel fine!) And for the water, instead of crystal light, you could try squeezing a little fresh lemon or lime juice into it instead, that's what I do! Hope that helps a little:)

Good morning! Here is an example of what my meals may look like in a day. Keep in mind that everyone is different! Also, I only use organic foods and produce! Best of luck to you!!!!

Meal 2: 1 pint strawberries; 1 large apple
Meal 3: 1/4 cup raw nuts and a handful of raisins
Meal 4: Large salad with raw veggies and a container of blueberries

What a day might look like for eating:

6 a.m. - single banana

8:45 a.m. - green smoothie (kale, cucumber, carrot, berries, pear, banana)

11:00 a.m. - romaine salad with onion, 1 avocado, 1/2 lg. cucumber, and sunflower seeds.

Noon - dessert of small plate of sundried organic raisins and cashews.

(for some reason my eating tapers off as the day progresses...who knows?)

4:30 p.m. - smaller salad of spinach and tomato.

8:00 p.m. - maybe a snack of apple and raw almonds if hungry. I may have some herbal tea as a treat.

I feel like I'm gorging myself but I am losing weight. Esp. the smoothie - it's a ton of smoothie.

OH awesome! Thanks so much guys! I guess I'm right on track. Is olive oil OK? Thanks so much for the reassurance! I feel better now. Today is day 4 and I am having a really easy time with it, surprisingly easy.

It's funny. When I was doing 50-75% raw I craved, but now that I'm at 99% (actually I think I'm 100% but for the hot tea), I am not craving cooked foods. My son even ordered and consumed a pepperoni pizza last night (teenager/not raw, obviously LOL) but I had to leave because it smelled so bad. In my former life, believe me I would have been stealing a slice (or three) - it would have been hard to pass by. The thought makes me nauseous now.

Tea CANNOT be considered bad. I mean, are you kidding me? It's so good for you!?
