View Full Version : Am I Fasting? Diff. Between Feast / Fast

I think I may be fasting unintentionally. For the past two days this has been my routine.

Breakfast - Green juice ( a variety of nothing but veggies) with superfood mixed in.
- One tablespoon of Udo's oil (omega blend)

Lunch - Same thing as breakfast, with oil, but no superfood.

Dinner - The past two nights varied with inclusions of avocado, tofu, kimchi, sesame oil, soybean paste, green peppers

I ate moderate dinners with the intention of being full, but not stuffed. After eating I get a burst of energy and I just wanted to make sure that I'm not putting stress on my organs (I read something like this on aleesha's website). The reason for doing this was to replace a couple meals in hopes of losing some weight, but the last thing I want to do is harm myself. Am I doing something wrong? I feel fine, except I question the overload of energy I get after eating.

------

I'm going to start a fast soon and I wanted to learn as much as I could before so I'm prepared. The main reason for this fast is to lose the beer belly that I created from 2 years of binge drinking and eating. My beer belly isn't that bad right now. I lost a lot of weight simply from eating more raw foods and drinking lemon water.. it's amazing...i never even intended to consider more raw foods in my diet..it's the lemon that led me to this path. I think ultimately I just want to lose 10 more pounds.

My question is what is the difference between a

1. A juice fast / juice feast

2. A green smoothie fast / feast

3. Juice fast/ feast vs. Green smoothie fast / feast?

4. While doing a juice or smoothie fast/feast can I continue taking an omega supplement?

I've been reading as much as I could on this forum for the past day or so and it seems like a green smoothie can be a mix of veggies and fruits. I haven't juiced any fruits yet, mainly because they have sugar and I feel great from the greens that i've juiced. I wonder if it would be beneficial to me..i don't want to gain any weight though.

Can you guys please weigh in and describe some of the differences between these fasts/feasts?

Thanks,

no you are not fasting... but you are adding lots of healthy juices to your daily regime. that's GREAT.

juice fast - less than 4 litres of juice per day
juice feast - 4 litres of juice per day (and 4 litres of water as well)
green smoothie feast - nothing but green smoothies, juices and water - keeps the digestion process awake - whereas juice fasts/feasts allow the digestion to rest
(there is no green smoothie fast)
water fasting allows the digestion to sleep.

yes you can/should take some hemp or flax oil weekly while fasting

Aleesha,

Thanks a lot for replying. I was hoping that you'd be the one to respond :)

I was curious to know how you came to conclusion that I was not fasting? At what point do you consider someone to be in a fast and have rested digestion?

In one of your blogs, you talk about eating during fasting and say this:

"You are not breaking your fast if your next 'meal' is juice!"

Does this apply to me as I've been eating one meal a day and drinking juice the rest?

I think i read in another post that greens are healing, while fruits are cleansing.

What do you actually mean by healing and cleansing?

What is the main difference in results from a juice fast/feast compared to a green smoothie feast?

Sorry for all the questions, but you seem to know so much, so I have to ask.

-I read somewheres on the internet that juicing the same thing over and over again will cause an allergic reaction over time. Is this true, and if so, how often should things be rotated?

-One more - How does one lose weight while on a juice feast consisting of fruits when there is alot of sugar?

what i mean by "eating while fasting" is if you are fasting and you have a slip up. you eat something. whether that's licking something off your finger, or actually biting into a cucumber, chewing and swallowing... all the way to having a little binge. if you go back to your fast with the next meal... and continue fasting... that is not breaking your fast.

but you are eating daily...

so... technically a fast CAN be fasting from anything so you could call this a fast... but your digestion is not getting a rest. it's still working every day... digesting dinner... pooping it out. no rest there.

;) but if you want, you can certainly call it a fast - totally your choice. i just wouldn't consider that a fast because to me... fasting is allowing my digestion to rest. i would however consider it an extremely healthy choice for your body and i personally would embrace this 100% for myself.

greens have all the nutrients to heal your body - fruit has all the nutrients to cleanse.

so you are cleaning out toxins and/or healing your body.

when your body is healing it is doing things like: healing dis-ease from your body, healing your liver from years of abuse, healing the lining of your stomach (if it needs healing)

when your body is cleansing it is doing things like: cleansing your blood, clearing the toxins from your organs... this removes dis-ease as well by the way but greens are more recommended for things like cancer etc.

at least this is my understanding of those terms. doesn't make me right... just makes it my interpretation.

difference in results from gs to juice... no idea. every body is different so we'll all have different effects. the main difference is... with gs your digestion doesn't rest.

never heard of anyone developing an allergy to consuming the same thing over and over. seems ridiculous to me.

and... your last question. i have no idea... but i know i do. ;)

you asked At what point do you consider someone to be in a fast and have rested digestion?

in my opinion... day three of your fast and then continuing until you begin consuming food again. the first few days your body is just getting into the process of resting... after day three... you are resting.

So i'm on day 4 of my fast and i'm not sure what to make of all this.

In the monrings I feel slightly sluggish, but after having a green juice or fruit juice I feel fine.

Yesterday, I drank 3 juices and i felt bloated. I find that i feel more bloated from the fruit juice.
----

The only thing I'm concerned with at this point is my bowel movements. they are getting smaller and smaller, which is expected because i'm not eating anything, but i just wonder if i should do an enema or something. Sorry to give tmi, but my feces are mainly green now... just wondering if this means my colon is almost clean? should i consider a bottom cleanse?

if fruit juices are bothering you... don't drink them.

you've been dry fasting all night... which is heavier detox so ya you may feel sluggish. good that you are taking care of that with some juice.

congrats!!!

Don't just consider it; do it. That's one way to know if your colon is clean.
