Hello all,
I am so excited my husband is letting me get a vitamix :) So of course I am doing my research. My question is it worth the get the vitamix super 5200 with wet and dry blade. It states that the dry blade is to grind up grains and beans. I do not know if I would use it. Then my next question is would you need though to grind up nuts and seeds? I want to make almond milk, grind nuts for recipes etc.. thanks

I only have the wet blade, and have used it to make nut mylks with no problem. I use a coffegrinder if I want the nuts made into a flour, but you can also do that in the wet blade - just make sure the container is dry and it'll grind them up in no time flat! I believe the dry blades are higher up in the apparatus than in the wet one. This could be beneficial when making raw bread doughs, but I also find that my food processor works beautifully for that. I forwent the dry blade because I felt that the $90 extra was a bit much for something I might rarely if ever use. Good luck deciding and enjoy your new machine!!!

Not to me. For the price, I'd get the large and small containers. I've had my VM for about 12 years or so and never had need for the dry blade and I grind flax seeds in mine and nuts in the fp.
I want to make almond milk, grind nuts for recipes etc.. thanks Almond milk is made with the wet blade. Use the fp for everything dry.

I like to let my husband think he is 'letting me' buy things, when they are over a certain price limit. When I bought my Vitamix, I had told my husband I was looking for one, then saw it at Costco, brought it home and told him that he bought it for me :)

I have the large wet blade container, the smaller wet blade container, and the dry blade container and honestly I have only used the dry blade container once. If I were to purchase again I would get the large wet and the small wet containers.
For grinding up dry stuff if you do not have a food processor a cheapie coffee grinder will do the same thing.
Hope you love your new Vitamix.

Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I think that's a good foundation in any marriage. Not to make large purchases without each other's consent?
Lord knows I dont want him coming home with that Flat Screen he's be coveting, until we both agree it's time and we've saved up the money.

Woot woot for twenty-four-year-old wives with solid marriages! Hehe :D
But man, a vitamix would be SO nice right now...

I don't agree. I'm an adult; I make my own money; I circulate it as I wish. Long as the bills are paid, we've got food in the house (or growing in the yard)... We talk about large purchases but in the end, if I want something, I get it. Same with him ~ long as he has the money and takes care of his end of the household.
I need to ask him if I can "have" something? He needs to ask me? How about I take responsibility for me and he takes responsibility for him?

^^Yeah, that could definitely work if you did separate financial planning, but when you combine them into one account, its super-difficult to have both people getting whatever they want whenever they want. We have gone into the red many times because we didn't consult each other first! We don't make equal paychecks, so its really difficult to pay bills fairly without combining funds.
But hey, its all up to preference!! :)

I suppose it depends on what you've worked out with your spouse. I like to use my husband as a sounding board for reality. So I do discuss large purchases with him but if I really wanted something, he wouldn't complain but it has to make sense. I do plant the seed though like I told him I want a new food processor and a dehydrator. So these are things I expect to buy within the next year. Of course bills have to be paid, etc but its also important to make sure that savings accounts are taken care of, future expenses are thought of, etc.
As an example, our air conditioning broke last year, $7k later we had a new AC system. Fortunately, due to savings and spending habits, it wasn't an issue.

I will keep infomed, but to tell you it has the same 7 year warranty as the regular and I ordered from Vitamix company and the operator states she has one and it has lasted her 18 years so far and she loves it. Also the blender I use now is a recondtioned Kitchen Aid blender that I use everyday that has worked great. Before I got the kitchen aid I was going through blenders like crazy. Hope that helps and I am excited for you to get one-have fun :)

Lori Ann - I hope your question was answered!
Folks, please let us stick to the original question....it is very dissapointing to me when threads divert from a question and personal thoughts are put in about something else in the post that is not relevant to the question, especially if it is personal....it does not make this site seem very welcome....all of you have a wealth of knowledge to impart and can be very supportive of others, let's be mindful of that.....Thanks....Deb

hoot hoot hoot for deberaw...I deleted my post.I agree. When personal strong opinion in a non supportive way is addressed,it detracts from the subject and integrity as well as the inspiration this site is!!!!
I apologize for "hooting for the ol fashioned way"..that wasnt needed to be posted and I am sorry.Thank you for saying that to us and reminding us what we are here for. If we see something we rub against, its our own stuff and doesnt need addressing here but in private with ourselves.Rather we can accentuate what the commonality is here and cheer people on.Bravo to you deberRAW.lv
