chetsunset,

Just in case you do not know this, the Nutiva coconut oil is not raw. They are currently working on a raw coconut oil/butter that will be available in May of this year.

I highly recommend shopping with Alex the Raw Guru. He has a lot of raw products on his site and offers free shipping within the US for orders of $100 or more.

p.s. It looks like you are in Florida and so is Alex (rawguru.com). I always get my order from him super fast, but you would get yours mega fast! Good luck!

How come they say its raw coconut oil if it isn't?

You should contact Nutiva directly about this.

They no longer state that their coconut oil is raw and have tried their best to correct the problem. I found out on a raw board about a year ago that Nutiva was not truly raw and when I contacted Nutiva about it they explained the situation and reimbursed me for the coconut oil I had recently purchased, even though I did not purchase it from them.

They have been wonderful about the situation and to their credit they did not know that their oil was not truly raw and once they were made aware of it they have done all they can to correct the situation.

If you have purchased their coconut oil recently and it states somewhere on the packaging that it is RAW or if the site you purchased it from states that it is raw...PLEASE...contact Nutiva directly as I believe that they will help remedy the situation.

Not sure how they've tried to remedy the situation if their own website says its raw and cold pressed at 104 degrees.

Thanks for the info but i'm not too concerned if it's not raw because I know the nutritional profile is the same. Even if it says RAW you can't be sure about it anyway as all coconut oil are produced in tropical climate where temperature could reach up to 130F during shipping. Also, there's no enzyme in coconut oil to worry about being destroyed. The enzyme are in the coconut meat.

Oh thanks for the info. I wasn't sure how it could not be raw but that makes sense that temperatures can reach 130 degrees during shipping.

Coconut oil is probably the only oil that is still stable at high temps so you can heat it without changing it chemically. It is less harm to heat it than any other oil.
