This is so much like real sugar cream pie it's unbelievable! I used to eat sugar cream pie daily. This is based on Alissa's Pecan pie which is very similar to sugar cream pie, I've decided to replace my pecan pie recipe in my recipe book with this sugar cream pie recipe:
Crust:
2 cups walnuts
½ cup dates (if not fresh, soak for 20 minutes)
Pinch Celtic salt
Filling:
1 ½ cup dates (if not fresh, soak for 20 minutes)
½ cup macadamia nuts or cashews
½ cup water
¼ cup honey
¼ tsp Celtic salt
Put all crust ingredients in a food processor and process until finely chopped, making sure not to over process. Press crust mix in a pie plate to form crust. Place all filling ingredients in food processor and process until smooth. If you have a high speed blender like a Blendtec or Vita-Mix you can use it to get a smoother filling. Pour filling in crust.
You have to try this!
Warning: This pie is extremely sweet and rich.

WOW! I've never even heard of sugar cream pie. This looks interesting...I'd had to take it one step further though and add something like, oh Spirulina and/or cacao...

I think that would ruin the intended taste significantly, it would turn to chocolate fudge with cacao. I'd recommend trying it as it, especially if you never had sugar cream pie, it's really good.

Sounds good! Although, every time I make a pie like this, it just tastes like nuts and dates, nothing very special. Maybe the macs make the difference? I never use them because dbf is allergic. Maybe I'll make a little one and keep it a secret :D

YES!!!! Thank you so much! I made this today...it's been on my recipe to-try list since you posted...it is absolutely divine! I will savor this in small pieces all week!{if it lasts that long!}... I just made it so it is very soft - does it set more? I wonder if coconut oil would make if more firm...but actually the texture is fine by me....coconut oil would probably change whole the taste now that I think about it....It is very delicious...Thank you again for posting....I will make it again!

Thanks. I'm not sure how long before it spoils. I once got quite sickby eating a raw recipe after 4 days so be careful, I now always make sure to finish things in 3 days or less.
I think it sets a bit more after being refrigerated. Did you use fresh dates or soaked dried ones? I used fresh.
I've done it 4 times already in about a week!

...I used dried dates, Medjool variety, that I soaked...I've never had fresh dates! I'll bet they are delicious...where do you get them? I don't think I've seen them either!.......I don't think it will last longer than 3 days, I keep nibbling on it...my husband like it too, and he's particular which Raw he likes and doesn't!.....I have to go get another piece now!...

They have fresh dates at both my regular grocery store and the health food store. Some are sold individually like other fresh fruits and some are sold in boxes.

This recipe has been on my mind since raweater posted it over a week ago. Finally, today I made it. I'm not to good at following directions but it came out very nice anyway. I cut the recipe in half, except I used 1/2 cup dates (all I had left) and 1/2 cup macadamias in the filling. Blended it in the Vitamix until it was completely smooth. It was enough to fill two 5" tart pans. Instead of chilling I put them in the dehydrator for about 5 hours. I ate one warm and put the second one in the fridge for another day.
YUMMY! Thanks for sharing the recipe raweater. :)

Oh my, sooo good! I just finished the second little tart for brunch. I used it as a dip for sliced apple. Tasted just like caramel apple. Double-YUM!

I just posted this idea on the thread about rhubarb. Thought I'd throw it in here for an idea. Haven't tried it yet, but I will very soon.
I can't wait for rhubarb to get growing this spring. I'm going to try making a Rhubarb Cream Pie with this recipe. Thinly slice rhubarb, maybe dehydrated a bit first in a thin coating of agave or juice. Then when mixed with the cream pie filling, I'm hoping that it and the rhubarb will marinate, and voila! RawKnitster said she made tarts and put them in the dehydrator and served them warm. That is when I got the idea for the rhubarb pie. Any other fruit could be used. HELLO PEACH PIE! Oh boy...we could SO pig out on all this stuff!

I made this tonight and it was a hit. Even my dad who often does not like my raw recipes liked it. I also love how quick and easy it is. My mom said that it tasted like pecan pie - only REALLY good. Great job Raweater, and thanks for posting the recipe.

You have all inspired me to make this pie. It sounds delicious.
Does it have a dense consistency?

It's not really dense, if you've ever had the SAD version it's almost identical in texture.

Would substituting agave for honey retain the texture/taste?
raweater

It should work the same with agave.

You're welcome. After having made it about 8 times I finally need a break from it! It will probably be 1-2 weeks before I make it again.

While absolutely delicious, this was WAY too sweet for me to eat without something to cut through that intensity. I had to dip apples in it ... and it tasted just like caramel!

Now you know how I made myself so sick before going raw, I would eat tons of things that are that sweet made with refined sugar.

What!? No pictures yet? Okay, I'll share.
I had company for lunch today and needed something fabulous that would set up in a couple hours.
I already had a tart crust in the fridge made from equal parts turkish apricots, dates, almonds, and shredded coconut, with a pinch of pink salt and some vanilla.
For the filling I used equal amounts of dates and macadamias. Once again I simply didn't have enough dates, but had plenty of macs. I dumped the date soaking water out before thinking, so instead of using water, I substituted fresh squeezed orange juice. The top is crusted with ground macadamias.
This little piece was leftover after lunch. I was going to save it and share later, but after taking the picture I couldn't resist eating it up. Actually, I didn't even try to resist :p
Raweater, Thanks again for the 5 star recipe.
