Hey everyone. I know this topic has been discussed but I'd like to see if I can gather more info.

Basically I am not on birth control. I have tried almost every kind and the side effects were terrible. About 2 years ago I decided I was done with it, and only now am I starting to feel like it's out of my body. Well until a few days ago...

I have been keeping track of my fertility through a chart online. Well I was having sex a few days ago, and since I was ovulating we used a condom. Well it broke. So I used Plan B morning after pill. I hadn't really had that happen before. But anyways 2 days later while I was still probably ovulating the condom broke again! I had to take that awful stuff again. Thing is these were 2 different brands of condoms that I have been using for years. I never had that happen.

I am sitting here trying to figure out my options. I enjoy sex but to put myself on birth control, I'd honestly rather not have sex than do that to myself again.

If condoms are so easily broken (and we put them on right, I have no explanation) then maybe I can't rely on them when I am ovulating. But that means by this method I could only have sex like 10 days a month.

There just has to be a better and healthy way. Please help. Thanks

I completely agree with you on the birth control issue!!
I was on it for 8 months when I was 16 and I felt like a completely different person! It was horrible!!
I don't really have any expert solutions for you, but I can suggest a couple things.
My fiance and I sometimes used to use two condoms during ovulation just in case, although we haven't done this in quite a while. Another thing is you could have him pull out even though he is wearing a condom...its not 100% but I imagine it would help in instances where the condom is breaking!

However...I am a 19 year old mommy, lol, so I am not sure how much you actually want to listen to my advice! :o

I'll go against the natural grain here and say that this is the on one area I'm happy to have chemical help.

I'm HIGHLY fertile, as are most of my female relatives. My son was born because of a broken condom and I'd sooner have my implant (I have an implant in my arm that lasts for three years) than have another. But that's definitely a personal choice.

I'm sure others will be able to help you out more. :)

I feel your pain, lol. This is precisely how I ended up with 6 children. Natural birth control really works very well, if you abstain during ovulation. I kind of had the attitude that having a child wouldn't be the end of the world, like some people equate that with having cancer or something, which I never really understood.

I ended up just getting my tubes tied. And I don't regret it At All. lol

By the way, just thought I'd mention this neat thing Tonya Kay uses http://ladycompusa.com/
It's based on the rhythm method but is more accurate and might therefore offer you more days per month, since you're not guessing when you're ovulating. Just a thought.

I use a diaphragm and it's great.
Use the banana search, you will find tons of threads on this topic with some really good info.
If you are using any lube, make sure it is safe for condoms. Some lubes weaken condoms and cause them to break.
Don't use two condoms. The friction between the condoms makes both condoms much more to break.

I'm in a similar boat... I've had birth control fail more than once and since '98 can no longer use 'the pill' as it was believed to be the trigger to a massive blood clot forming in my abdomen which almost killed me. So it's 'condoms are us' nowadays! It's hard not to be paranoid either....I won't let my man near me when I'm ovulating! It sucks :(

Diaphrams sound like an interesting option....but I'm still pretty nervous that it would fail me!

As far as your condoms breaking, did you use a drop of lube before putting it on? That's apparently a common reason (not using any) for them breaking....

I can highly recommend a book called - Taking charge of your fertility by toni weschler

most condoms are not vegan.
